test -x /usr/sbin/anacron || ( cd / && run-parts --report /e

I am getting this message on a daily and weekly basis. Is this from cron trying to cleanup "/var/cache"? Has anyone else seen this or have a fix? /etc/cron.daily/man-db: /usr/bin/mandb: can't read from /var/cache/man/pt_BR/index.db: Input/output error /usr/bin/mandb: can't read from /var/c...

Raid 1?

First off I did the 1.2 major update and everything is ok so far, thanks guys!! I am just wondering if the RAID system is working properly and my disk is mirrored. This is what I did: After the update I logged in as admin, went to Disk-->RAID-->Create RAID array. It asked me to confirm using /dev/sd...

So how is everyone doing with backuppc now? Any progress? I installed it and have successfully made a backup of my main linux laptop but seem to have a problem with it backing up the localhost. WAN access is working also. I still need: localhost backup, and Win machines config + backup. BTW, here ar...

Another option is backppc. http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/ My friend uses it to backup all his computers (linux & Win). He loves it but I cannot personally vouch for it since I have not used it. However, it does look very good and is another option to throw in the mix. If I try it I will post s...

I have had success streaming audio using gnump3d http://www.gnu.org/software/gnump3d/ First, you will need to have access to your bubba through the WAN by either having a static IP address or using a service like dyndns. I am using dyndns, it is free and works great. https://www.dyndns.com/ https://...

Thanks for the info, I am new at this fetchmail thing. I did some searching and found that if you have read a message already then fetchmail will not download it. You then have 2 choices - either force download by 'fetchmail -a -k' or you can cheat like I did and mark all your messages unread. Then ...

horde email

I have setup my bubba to check my 3 email accounts at different sites (gmail, yahoo, & cox.net). Upon checking the mail.log it is now seeing all these but it only pulled down the messages from cox.net and not the others. Fetchmail says it "sees" these messages but does not forward them...

Shouldn't it be be

Code: Select all

shutdown -h now
as root or admin of course. That is what I have always used but I am not sure if leaving the 'now' off would have any ill effect.

You are right, I didn't even think about aptitude.:oops: It is the preferred debian command line gui now. Disregard the dselect advise and try aptitude!

Anyone know a good Windows-program to filter 'foreign' characters out of file names/directories and replace them? Are you copying while in Bubba or in XP? If you are copying from Bubba ie using Linux then you might try a little program called MC (midnight commander). I believe it will let you filte...

Yep, apt-get is your friend, BUT you must be root to do this. Edit: See below comments about aptitude and disregard this about dselect. As I stated I am old and set in my ways. :wink: I am a little more old school and like to use a little command line program called 'dselect'. You can get it from th...

... But it could be nice to use apt-get to do the job... Well... you could just add the etch-backports repositories to your /etc/apt/sources.list. BUT that could and most likely would open you up to other problems, ex. some programs might want to update when what you have is probably what you shoul...
