Re: Replace /dev/sda and grow LVM system?
Hmm, I would clone both drives so if it doesn't work out then you could revert back to how it was before. This requires a spare 2-3TB drive (depending on the size of your eSATA drive).

Re: Release notes for BUBBA|2 version 2.0
I had a problem with the postinst script for the bubba-backend package. Turns out the email server (which I don't use) configuration in that script was the culprit. Specifically, the "hostname -f" command would return "unkown host". In the bubba admin UI, under Email -> Server Se...

Re: Automatic backup, triggered by connecting device
I guess removing /etc/udev/rules.d/010_backup.rules would stop the script triggering when the drive is inserted. There are a few more files. Just trace your steps backward from the initial guide and you should get most of them (I think the log function was created later) Probably best to move the fi...

I've had the bubba lock up a few times when streaming video via mediatomb to a Playstation 3 and I'm fairly sure whilst downloading torrents (only once or twice). I steam 1-2hrs of video per day and it I would say the bubba has crashed once every 2-3 weeks. I seldom use SMB/CIFS and AFP is not enabl...

Have noticed another problem. If one of the folders defined in BACKUP_FOLDERS or BACKUP_FOLDERS_EXCLUDE have spaces in the name the script will fail. This isn't a problem for me as I don't have such folders included. I'll see if I can figure it out. Mind you, I'm no bash expert, but I'll give it a go.

Ok, finally found the time to mess around with this script. I've added the ability to exclude folders. If somebody wants to use this *please* test it thoroughly before using as my backup scenario might differ from yours. In /etc/default/usb_backup I've added the variable BACKUP_FOLDERS_EXCLUDE : BAC...

Ah, of course. Smart :) What I like about this script is the simplicity so adding extra complexity with excluded directories might just be asking for trouble. I'm of the same opinion when it comes to rsync's --delete option - better to back up to much than to loose it all. Another nice feature would...

Nice script! Thank you for sharing it with us. :) In the /usr/local/bin/usb_backup script, why do you append the parent directory to the rsync destination directory? Is this a safety precaution so that if you have trailing slashes in BACKUP_FOLDERS it won't trash the destination folder? Also, from w...

unrar-free might do the job. It can't handle volumes and the RAR 3.0 format. Otherwise, backports.org seems to have the unfree version. Edit: sorry, backports was wrong. It is in the non-free repo so you'll have to edit /etc/apt/sources.list and uncomment the line referring to non-free (ie. deb http...

I had problems with streaming video via mediatomb. As soon as I switched to wired network it disappeared. I previously ran mediatomb on a standard desktop computer (streaming via wifi) and I did not have this problem so I'm guessing the problem is a combination of bubba and wifi. Is it possible to c...
