Re: B1/2 -> B3 upgrade discount

I have no criticism of this upgrade discount; I think it's admirable! That said, I'm content enough with my pair of B2s at the moment that I will pass... HOWEVER, when you get to the point where you're able to offer motherboard/backplane upgrades, I'll take two! I just wanted to be on record about t...

Re: Release notes for BUBBA|2 version 2.0.2

I'm afraid this still replaced my firewall code with its own default.

Re: Release notes for BUBBA|2 version 2.0

I very much appreciate this upgrades, but I would appreciate it if you would quit messing with my firewall! Every time I upgrade I get this: "Running firewall and saved configuration file is determined to be corrupt. Default firewall has been restored." Well, no, it is not corrupt , it has...

Re: SSH from a mac

I use "ssh bubba.local". But make sure you have the avahi-daemon package installed.

Re: Anyone here have an AppleTV? Then check this out

Calvin, Warning, UNIX expertise required here. First, get AppleTV updated to the latest software, if necessary. Second, hack the AppleTV to gain SSH access: http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Install_SSH Next you have to get NFS mounting working on the AppleTV. To do that, you need to grab the MacOSX 10...

Re: system backup tutorial review

Looks like a good setup, Zander. I personally use rsync and I don't bother compressing, which has the advantage that the backup can serve as a hot spare when needed. (I don't use RAID, because I want the backup drive to age more slowly.) But of course your approach could save some extra space that y...

Anyone here have an AppleTV? Then check this out

My original file server was a Mac Mini with an external USB drive. This was nice because it provided native iTunes and iPhoto support as well as good old standard file service. Well, when it was time to upgrade for other reasons, I decided to go with the Bubba 2 (well, two, actually, one for here an...

Re: Lost contact with Bubba

Looks like you may need to boot using a USB rescue stick and poke around on the system disk to see what the problem is. The Excito documentation talks about how to build a rescue stick from a standard install stick.

Re: Release notes for BUBBA|2 1.3.0

Hmm, actually, it looks like I didn't save off my original firewall config after all. I had a couple of lines right at the beginning of the INPUT table to reject INVALID packets. No biggie.

Re: Release notes for BUBBA|2 1.3.0

Here's the firewall I'm currently using. Honestly I understand that you have to tailor your update to users who don't hack things up like this. But what I would recommend in that case is to save a copy of the old firewall.conf, and point the user towards it, if you decide you need to replace it. # G...

Re: Release notes for BUBBA|2 1.3.0

Despite the odd kernel error I reported above (and someone else did too), the upgrade seemed to go well for me. I have a 1.5Tb setup with a 1.5Tb Bubba|Storage. No RAID. The one thing I did *not* like was that it replaced my custom firewall configuration. Fortunately I had it saved off in another lo...

Re: Release notes for BUBBA|2 1.3.0

OK, I did the web-based upgrade. Just for grins I ssh'ed over as root and watched the progress via this: tail -f /var/log/dpkg.log At about the point where bubba-horde was being upgraded I started getting this: Was unable to connect to server; This is probably due to temporary shutdown of the webser...
