Re: Practical, up-to-date (2015) use-cases for a B3?
Just wanted to chime in on the use cases. I have one B3 2TB running in the corner of the living room next to the router, which does torrent downloading of movies and tv shows, while also serving them via DLNA to the TV and media player-projector setup. It also runs Logitech Media Server for my Squee...

Re: 5GHz not working
Sorry if I'm being Captain Obvious here, but have you checked if it works as a wifi client in 5GHz mode?

Re: btsync (Bittorrent Sync)
I just tried the Linux ARM package from the official Bittorrent Sync website. It really doesn't require any installation. Just download the tar file, unpack and run the program. First SSH into your B3. Download and unpack file Correct cpu alignment (as root) (Optional) Allow btsync through firewall ...

Re: B3 as a wireless device to an access point
Have you enabled DHCP configuration of the WLAN device?
You can try doing it manually by running
-and then checking if gateway and DNS gets updated (or just try to ping something).

Code: Select all

Re: Chromecast and B3 not working
I have one that works. But it took me a few hours to get it on the wifi, and if I am not mistaken, I had to get the Chromecast on an unencrypted wifi to update its software, before I could make it connect to my bubba-wifi. After that it runs just fine ( I think - I don't really use it, since I can't...

Re: Use mobile internet 3g USB dongle as WAN
My B3 has been serving up internet from a 4G/LTE USB modem for a while, and all along my easyfind name has not been working. The problem was that the easyfind script sends the MAC address of the WAN-interface, and since my WAN-interface is now ppp0, which has no MAC address, the easyfind script fail...

Re: I have been attacked and don't know why.
I recently found out my b3 had been compromised too. Had to happen sooner or later, since I don't show it much lovin' and it has been exposed to the internet. :) I know it's not a fix, but I added www-data to /etc/cron.deny to disable crontab for the apache user. But then I also blocked apache and m...

Re: Isolate misbehaving IP on wlan
The INPUT chain in iptables is for traffic to the b3 itself - connecting to it's webserver or it's samba server etc. So when you DROP packets from the offending IP in the INPUT chain it just means the b3 will not serve stuff to it. You want to block it in the FORWARD chain instead, which is where th...

Re: how to open/close firewall port 21 22 with script?
Not sure if you already solved this, but inserting a rule into a chain and removing it afterwards isn't that complicated. Insert the rule as the first in the INPUT chain (the -I <chain> <num> inserts the rule as rule number <num>). iptables -I INPUT 1 -s 11.22.33.44 -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m tc...

Automatically logged off when playing music
I log on to my B3 from work and start the music player, FirePlay. I start to play, say an ACDC album. After a certain amount of time (not sure, could be 20 or 45 minutes) the music stops and the browser pops up a logon dialogue asking for my username and password. Entering the details into this dial...

Connect your B3 to your wireless network
My ISP gave me a router with built-in DSL modem, so I can't use the B3 as a router. Also I don't care to have the B3 close to the router for several reasons. So I needed to use the B3 as a wireless client, serving files and webpages to the local network over wifi, and here's the recipe I followed. I...
