Re: B3 Air Cooling Modification

After much comparing between B3 and other NAS devices, I decided to go for the Synology DS212+ mostly because of RAID. DS212+ has a fan but I have run it in silent mode (~20dB = noiseless) and here is my HDD temperature after/under a serious stress-test: http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/7092/selec...

Re: Newbie: Accessing external disk through FTP

Short answer, don't use FTP but instead SFTP. If you use FileZilla, just use port 22 instead of port 21

Re: B3 Air Cooling Modification

Paul, Thank You for Your reply! 512mb of ram is a problem but it is still enough for doing /tmp and /var/log in tmpfs (let logs go with the wind @ reboot and enable /var/log to HDD or USB-mem when there is trouble or forward logs to other server). Regarding installing OS on USB memory, I think it sh...

Re: Excito HTPC

Then I would like to see them build it on Fit-PC3 but I guess this doesn't fit their business model (at this time?).

Building a HTPC 2011 on ATX hardware is IMO overkill. And XBMC is what I want to run on my HTPC :)

Re: B3 | USB-laptop cooler & autostart script / HDD temp

the write protect switch is phony anyway, it is only a flag the the OS may or may not decide to listen to. Anyway, I don't think USB disk are fast enough to run a B3 OS for normal operation. Normal use generally includes streaming stuff and using sql databases for squeezeserver et al. I know freena...

Re: New User Niggles

Hi oticxe, 1) This should not happen. However, it could happen if you just briefly pull power from your router. B3 detects network changes by sensing a link-down for more than 5 (i think, could be 10) seconds, and if shorter than that it doesn't send a new DHCP request (while, at the same time othe...

Is it also slow after a fresh reboot with no extra torrents etc running?

Re: B3 Air Cooling Modification

Nice update, thanks! Actually I think that the problem should be addressed and a different approach towards the problem could be taken. The CPU @ full speed consumes 2W and the HDD is between 4 - 8W depending on use. In other words, it is the HDD that generates the heat and not the CPU. In this thre...

I did just find a very useful tool called inotifywatch, perhaps it helps you with your problem.

Re: B3 | USB-laptop cooler & autostart script / HDD temp

Ok, here is a list of USB memory sticks that I'm thinking about: Kingston DTU30G2 (can be found @ amazon.com or jimms.fi), price: 50€/$ [USB3.0 read @ 100mb/sec & write @ 70mb/sec] Trabscebd JetFlash 700 (pixmania.com...), price >35€ [32GB model: USB3.0 read @ 70mb/sec & write @ 30mb/sec, li...

Re: HDD error ?

But, as the presented errors are typical for a controller issue, and no file corruption was reported (which you'd expect from mem-corruption) I still put my money on the controller or the cable =) Yes, I was thinking that it's odd that the starter of the thread did not complain about corrupted file...

Re: HDD error ?

Try to re-attach the cables as Ubi said. Could also be an IO controller failing or a software (kernel?) bug. Can you recall what you have updated and installed before this started? Have you tried fsck, what does it say? Have you tried to restart udev? What HDD are you using and which kernel? Just in...
