Interesting. But there is notheing realy that connects wifi drivers with low level hdd lock addressing that buggers the partitions.
Except bad memory.

Re: Unable to shut down B2
I think randomusernames unit is rather old, which makes me think crappy drivers in the recent update. Except i dont think there were drivers in that update... A proper test would be to downgrade and see if magically stuff starts working.

Re: Failed B3 (another)
A crappy connector might, but for sata is rather unlikely. In pata-land it was rather common to see this, and i always had a spare cable available. Other than this not much really, in the hardware front, but a crap driver with bad timings can cause this kind of behaviour too.

Can you borrow a spare hd somewhere to try? And seeif the mobo is ok. You need a usb rescue disk as well. Its seems to be a broken hd, but its always good to try other options

Re: No writing from Mac, but from Windows
I'm guessing here, but I think there have been changes in the AFP daemon last month because Apple changed the way macs handle AFP in the new OSX lion. Maybe the patch supplied to handle this change has some by-effect in the permissions that you see. THe way you currently handle your files is just no...

Re: No writing from Mac, but from Windows
FIrst of all: the reason the "allow login via ssh" does not work for user admin because it is a security setting. You need to use another user for this. The problem *seems* to be that, after updating, your user names got matched to different user numbers. This could have happened on the Ma...

Re: No writing from Mac, but from Windows
ah yes, you may need to log into the SSH console of the B3 to see the owner (unless there is a GUI trick. THere very well may be one but I never use the GUI....)

Re: No writing from Mac, but from Windows
Pleasy verify permissions by making a chmod 777 folder in an accessible location and write to that. If it does not work, the issue is in the afpd config. If you can, look at the owner of the written file.
Maybe you have alteady done this, but i caanot be certain from your post

Yes, but 11of those 12 came from ldap!
The oreilly bind book is pretty good. If you get a second hand issue of an old version youre done for a few bucks , and you get a great eplanation on how dns and bind work. My copy is from 2001 and it is still good enough.

Try logging in from a rescue usb disk to bypass the disk entirely, but it does seem the drive is fried

Re: Hard disk errors -- how to fsck
The trick is to log in directly as root. You may need to alter /etc/ssh/sshd_conf fir this.
