Re: Lenny image and how to proceed

Tor, When I first upgraded to lenny, I left the USB stick in the machine such that when I shutdown lenny was reinstalled all over again. This happened a number of times until I realised and removed the USB stick. Then when I shutdown lenny it didn't shutdown; it just blinked indicating that it was s...

Re: Lenny image and how to proceed

On my installation, I can connect to the DAAP share on bubba through RythmBox on my netbook, and it lists the music and plays fine. I had to stop it transcoding ogg files. The main 'problem' for me is that if I shutdown lenny it seems to try and re-install itself from the USB port, so it doesn't shu...

Re: Bubba 2 in a car

The nokia n900 is a debian linux computer within a phone.

This has GPS, 5M pixel camera, 32GB memory, Wifi, Bluetooth and the normal phone interfaces. Although somewhat expensive off-contract, this may suit your application better.

Re: Bubba 2 in a car

I turn my Bubba (1) on and off from the power switch about once per week without any problems, so you could repeat that in a car. I used to design electronics for military vehicles. The problem with connecting it straight to a battery happens when starting the engine, when the battery voltage may va...

Ogg Vorbis on Bubba

All my music is encoded in Ogg Vorbis format. Mediatomb is able to serve this but wasn't configured properly in the original Bubba installation. I would have needed to recompile Mediatomb to enable Ogg Vorbis properly.Essentially the problem was that while Mediatomb scanned the music directory prope...

Re: BubbaServer (b1) lenny image

I tried to shut down lenny on my Bubba server using the button at the back. The light started flashing but it never actually shut down. After 12 hours of the flashing light I turned the power off. I had noticed before that if I left the boot usb stick in then it would reinstall lenny when the button...

Re: BubbaServer (b1) lenny image

Under lenny, syslog is reporting this error message regularly.

bubba modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.16.16/modules.dep: No such file or directory.

The directory /lib/modules is empty.

Any ideas?

Re: BubbaServer (b1) lenny image

I have managed to get MediaTomb working. I browse to it at http://bubba:49125/. It confused me at first because running it from the command line as root worked fine but it wouldn't start correctly from /etc/init.d. To fix it. 1: edit the storage bit of /etc/mediatomb/config.xml to be: <storage> <sql...

Re: Networking dies if I restart my router.

On my Bubba One, dhclient.conf is in /etc.

On my desktop computer, running Debian Lenny, dhclient.conf is in /etc/dhcp3.

My desktop computer is actually an acer netbook.

Re: Networking dies if I restart my router.

I turn my router off every day and initially had this problem. I sorted it out by changing the timeout in /etc/dhclient.conf to 120. This is my current configuration: /etc/dhclient.conf timeout 120; lease { interface "eth0"; fixed-address 192.168.0.242; option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0; op...

Noisy (Electrical) Bubba

My bubba had suddenly become noisy to the extent that there is a buzzing sound on my digital wireless telephone such that I can't hear the caller and my X10 system is not working correctly - it uses the powerline to communicate. I have tracked it down to the power supply. The effect is there with th...

Disabling fetchmail when no network

I run my bubba continuously but use it to make sure that my internet gateway, a BT Home Hub, is only one when there is someone in the house. As a result, the network is not always available. Fetchmail then logs errors in syslog as it is unable to access the network (which is no longer there). Is the...

Logging energy usage

I am also using my bubba to log energy usage within my house (gas and electricity). I have used components from RFXcom together with heyu to read the usage every 30 seconds. I then log this using rrdtool so that I can get a 'live' picture on a web browser and well as graphs for weekly, monthly and a...
