Re: RedSleeve v7 live-USB for B3 released (Linux 4.5.0)
If you wish to prevent yum from installing RedSleeve kernels during its update process, you can do this: $ sudo nano /etc/yum.conf [main] exclude = kernel* If you would like yum to automatically keep the system up to date: $ sudo yum install yum-cron $ sudo nano /etc/yum/yum-cron.conf apply_updates ...

Re: uboot update needed.
Everyone capable is trying to port their favorite distribution on the b3 ; debian 7, archlinux now gentoo... Since Fedora 20 and onwards supports ARM as primary architecture, how viable would it be for someone to build a Spin specific to the Bubba3, Sakaki has now released RedSleeve for the Bubba3....

Re: RedSleeve v7 live-USB for B3 released (Linux 4.5.0)
Sakaki, you are totally my hero. When excito left us with an out-dated image, riddled with vulnerabilities, you have come to the rescue with Gentoo, Arch, and now RedSleeve, amplifying the Bubba3's usefulness immensely. As Fedora is my primary operating system and CentOS is running on my servers, ha...

Re: USB boot on bubba 3
you loose your boot volume. I think you meant "lose". "Loose" means to release something so that it flaps around. If we are necroposting threads that have been dead for three years, it is worth mentioning here for anyone new to stumble across this thread that forum member Sakaki...

Re: ZFS on B3?
Back to the original topic though, ZFS on Bubba3 would face challenges: ZFS ARC is RAM-hungry (deduplication is prohibitive except on the smallest zpools); compression, encryption (and to a lesser extent hashing) are CPU-hungry; there's not much benefit to ZFS if you don't use ECC RAM "single d...

Re: USB root
Thanks for that thread link. It is actually the topic I myself referred to in my original post. It's just that my original link broke as the forum migrated. You should also check the methods for setting the idle timer on the green drive Yes definitely! Thanks. I have upped my disks' timeout to 11 mi...

Re: USB root
If anyone finds this looking for the same answers I was, Sakaki has done some amazing work on this front recently. She has produced a bootable Live USB image which is persistent and can be deployed onto the internal hard disk if desired, with no soldering(!), in the following tasteful flavours: * Ar...

Re: uboot update needed.
Aww. Thanks though. Yeah I saw they list Banana Pi and BeagleBone explicitly with full hardware support built in. And they have a walkthrough for creating ARM Spins . It all looks so promising! But it's beyond me to tell how much tweakery would be needed before it could compile for the B3. Likewise ...

Re: Release notes for Excito Bubba 2&3 software version 2.6.
Me came another idea to abbreviate the waiting for a Wheezy upgrade from official side: Currently Excito is offering its B3 without HD at an attractive price (72€). If those newly sold boxes came with the patched/upgraded uBoot loader, it will be quite easy for any user with some Linux skill to ins...

USB root
I just bought a Bubba3. I see that there is frequent disk access by the stock Excito Arch linux image installation. I was hoping to install the Excito Arch linux to a USB flash drive (formatted as Ext4 I suppose) and then install my WD Green 2Tb and format it with XFS to use it for NAS purposes. Thi...

Re: Can't post
Understood but maybe whitelist the domains that are related to Excito, its products, its support fora, its wiki. I suspect a spam bot is unlikely to promote its agendum using such links.

Can't post
Hi. I can't post to this forum more than a simple "test" string, due to overzealous Forum Autobot Police telling me, "Your post looks too spamy for a new user, please remove off-site URLs." There aren't even any URLs in my message. I had wanted to refer to the Excito wiki and the...
