Re: Jabber service out of the box

I would suggest Prosody over Openfire - Comes with a lot less dependencies, has just as many features and is quite a bit better for people who wants a simple Jabber Server that just works. Otherwise I completely support this idea. :)

A Raid1-solution on the two eSATA interfaces still isn't a bad idea. Reason; harddrives fail, and if my main drive should die then it's nice knowing my content is still there, and reasonably safe. :)

Or simply have the CMS stuff disabled and activated through a setup script?

Put another one down for SSD here; though, today it's probably too expensive, but it's a nice-to-have feature. I also agree that an UPS with the same form-factor would be a nice feature to have. Given the Bubba's low power requirements, it doesn't have to be more than a battery and some sort of volt...

I understand how it can be confusing to someone who hasn't ever done it before. What you need to do is: 1. Download and install the neccessary packages sudo apt-get install netatalk 2. Configure the netatalk config file Follow these two sections in the Gentoo wiki and ignore everything else, it's no...

Well, I'm not employed by Excito either, so I might be mistaken, But I think the short answer is because of all the time to develop said configuration scripts that has to be written. Long answer: The Debian repositories contain tens of thousands of packages; Bubba uses maybe a hundred of these. Each...

As an Ubuntu/Debian user, I have to say your fears are greatly unfounded.

It's as simple as typing "apt-get install netatalk" on the command line, and might involve opening a text file or two with nano. (You vi users, hush, this is a newbie :P)

Anyhow, simply follow this howto. Enjoy!

msx: True, but it doesn't have to come *enabled* by default... The server itself takes up a few megs of disc space, and that's about it. Apt getting does work, but it's a bit cumbersome, and since the Jabber community recently have come up with quite a few things (Jingle, PEP to mention a few things...

Jabber (XMPP) server installed by default

Hi! First off, I must say I'm extremely interested in a Bubba server, and the ease of use makes me want to go buy it right now if it weren't for one nagging detail; It doesn't have a Jabber Server installed. If it could come with the latest and greatest versions of either OpenFire or ejabberd instal...
