I've been using my Bubba 1 as my private mailserver for 1.5 years now and never had any security problems. As long as your firewall is setup with only the required ports open, there is very little a hacker can do. I do get regular attempts to do port scans and also attempts to login to Bubba by 'bot...

I also found a small C programme to calculate prime numbers (remember to remove the line breaks if you copy+paste into vi or whatever) - http://bellard.org/mersenne.html This took over 10 hours on my Bubba 1 ! I had a similar programme on my 1MB 286 computer years ago and that took 4-5 days to compu...

However, by using the up/down arrow keys, I'm able to scroll down to display the "Add" button. Thanks Lelle, never thought of that so will give it a go. Carl, scroll bars do exist on the other pages such as 'File manager' but that's part of the frame and not the browser. In fact I can replicate thi...

Download page on a EEEPC problem

I recently got an ASUS EEEPC and have installed eeeUbuntu on it rather than the default OS. It comes installed with Firefox 3 browser. However when I log into my Bubba I do not get a vertical scroll bar on the 'Download' page of the Webadmin interface, which means I cannot add new downloads (which i...

looking at their forum, the performance of the desktop leaves a bit to be desired. With Bubba I am able to stream to my laptop and then to my TV so the display side is handled by a PC and Bubba can dedicate it's resources for streaming. I am so looking forward to BUBBA|TWO which will fix my only gri...

Strange email problems ?

Hi all, I am not sure if this is a fault or something I've done wrong (quite likely the latter). Up until Friday I would receive around 30-40 SPAM emails a day. On Friday I caused a major problem with my router and had to reset it back to factory defaults. It took me hours to get it working again, p...

Looks good ! I am sorely tempted !! Especially as the WLAN can be added on after sale.

Is the Bubba|TWO built in a metal enclosure ? Although it's hard to see on the technical drawings, are there any air-vents, as always I am concerned about hear dissipation..

UPDATE ! I've just logged onto my server via the web-admin (using my normal, non-root username) and analysed my /var/log/auth.log and got the following entry - Jun 11 22:13:56 sydnew sudo: www-data : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/usr/share/web-admin ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/lib/web-admin/backend.pl dump_file...

Re: installing rtorrent from sources

[quote="nb000"] Installing rTorrent from the source. This has 2 big advantages and one disandvantage: + you can install the latest version + you can manage it from anywhere using nTorrent or n2hell or ... - you can compile it only on etch :-( [quote] Why would you want to install it from source ?? I don't use 'Logwatch' so I don't know what it reports, but unless you have given out your root password then I think it's unlikely you have been hacked. Unless you have altered apache then I cannot see /etc/passwd (or it's shadow) being accesible. If they have your root password why would they need...

I did a course on computer security and vunerabilities a while back and threw the whole range of hacker attack tools at Bubba to see what I could find. In fact Bubba was very secure and much more secure then some well known websites out there. I do see alot of attempts by hacking bots to request sys...
