Re: No access to new Excito B3

I never really looked at that restore image before, but I figured it wouldn't hurt having it around just in case. It's not entirely what I expected it to be (I thought it would lead to a bootable USB stick) and I think I should state a warning here: If you unpack a zip file on Windows with the stand...

Re: No access to new Excito B3

169.254.x.x is a self assigned Windows IP. It does not count as valid but is implemented to allow multiple Windows machines to talk to each other in an unmanaged network. To sum it all up: your B3 is not handing out IP addresses and apparently it also does not accept any offering itself. Within this...

Re: No access to new Excito B3

Hi, If you're connecting through a switch forget about the 100Mbit full duplex thing *) This was just an optional measure to try and trick the network to negotiate a cross-link mode which would normally require a special cable (with the orange and green wires swapped on one side). In either case it ...

Re: No access to new Excito B3

Sorry there BadTicket - I overlooked that one. There may be a point in what Ubi says though. Most current network interfaces can auto-negotiate for stuff like speed and duplex and also for being reversely connected. There is a thing though with gigabit connections which may implicate that all these ...

Re: No access to new Excito B3

Looks like a bug has been introduced with the B3 then, this being the second reporting of an inaccessible B3. The LAN adapter is supposed to be able to run two different modes, but apparently it can go into "master" mode even when connected to an existing DHCP environment. The default addr...

Re: How to set up TOR, and avoid DRD/FRA

Well, since apparently this is going to be a hot item, on account of governments starting to instruct ISP's to block access to several web resources, I thought I'd give it a go. The above description is.... not a lot of help. The pages linked to... probably even less. Information on the on-off plugi...

Re: No access to new Excito B3

Well the problem with making the B3 a member of an existing network is that the names are off. The DHCP server in your router will hand out several networking parameters, including a network name that is most likely not ".local". With Windows trying to be just as smart as everyone else now...

Re: Bubba 3 and Domain handling mail etc.

Nearly all glasviber providers do so. Rene That sounds a bit bold. With fiber your choice is normally limited to a single ISP, which in my case is the same company that maintains all the classic copper wiring nationwide and who provided my neighborhood with a whopping 6Mbit capacity for all of us t...

Re: Bubba 3 and Domain handling mail etc.

Which Dutch providers hand out private range IP's :?: I'm fairly certain that can't be. One thing they do do however, is supply manipulated routers that they can hack into remotely and are practically impossible to replace with your own router (i.e. the B3). What they also do is block SMTP traffic i...

Re: Network stopped working on B2

Hard to identify what's going on this way, but the fact that the B2 complains when you try to login to the admin interface would hint that you are connected to the WAN interface. To get full access, you should really connect to the LAN interface. Most likely thing that happened here is that you dyna...

Re: Network stopped working on B2

If the green light is blinking, you are connected and the NIC is registering traffic. If the orange light is also on it means the NIC is working at full duplex; i.e. if the orange light is off this is not per se an indication of a problem. The obvious fault would be that you connected the wrong inte...

Re: How can I delete directories?

If the issue here is that you want to be able to share write access over some files, would editing the umask settings (in smb.conf or at system level) not solve this problem? umm, no. Umask is a limit on what rights can be assigned. If a process decides to impose much stricter rights, umask will no...

Re: How can I delete directories?

Thanks, but isn't there any simple way to regain ownership of directories? As I said, my hoster All-inkl offers a small tool, I simply choose the directories that I want to delete (such as Joomla or Dokuwiki) and then get assigned the rights. Afterwards, I can simply delete them using Filezilla... ...

Re: How can I delete directories?

Does not the default ACL properties have the same problem as the sticky properties? If you copy files from other places they will not use the default ACL. So the only way to be certain to always be able to access files is to have a cron job run periodically that sets the permission to what you want...

Re: How can I delete directories?

Regretfully Unix style rights are rather simplistic and there's no such thing as inherited or superimposed rights. Yes the 'sticky' bit adds some additional control, but it's not full-proof (or is it fool-proof?). Samba has the force user/force group configuration option, but that only works if you ...
