Re: I have been attacked and don't know why.
I've noticed a substantial increase in the number of attempts to exploit this hole over the last week or so. My fail2ban filter is blocking 30 - 40 IP address per day (each one gets blocked for a month so it's not just the same IPs again and again). Some of them are coming from IPs owned by Amazon c...

Re: Encryption possible with the new backup solution?
I think I wrote a how to on using rsyncrypto on this very forum. rsync with SSH is straight forward enough (man rsync) but for unattended transfers you will need to set up a key pair.

wpad is a potential securiity hole is if you're on a domain with a two-tier TLD (e.g. xyz.co.uk). See here for why: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Proxy_ ... l#Security

Re: How is http://b3 resolved
It should be in /etc/hosts and the default config for dnsmasq is to serve addresses for domains listed there before it forwards requests to external DNS servers.

Re: Encryption possible with the new backup solution?
Yes, you can encrypt an entire volume with ecryptfs. I'm sure there is an article about it either here or on the wiki.

Windows is modifying files on your DLNA server? Apart from the fact it shouldnt be, how is it doing it? I thought DLNA was a read only protocol.

Fail2ban jail not working - why?
Hello, I've posted this on serverfault but got no responses so far: http://serverfault.com/questions/555962/fail2ban-apache-noscript-not-working More info can be found there, but the basic gist is that I have a fail2ban jail called apache-noscript (this is a built in jail, not one I've written mysel...

Do you mean you want to make it into an access point? There is some discussion here: http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4648

Re: I have been attacked and don't know why.
As long as you don't actually have phpmyadmin installed you're OK. I see daily attempts to access both phpmyadmin and vtigercrm. I've set fail2ban to immediately drop traffic from any IP address that tries to access one of them.

Something else to check is the size of the minidlna log file in /var/log. I just noticed the same file has been running since sometime last year and was pretty big. I need to work out how to include it in logrotate.
