Re: WARNING for Gentoo users!

Hi Andy - as Gordon noted in his original post: This appears to be a mistake that only affects ARM based systems (so Bubba|2 users will be safe). The B2 is a 32-bit powerpc (ppc) based system, not ARM, so this mix-up in the Gentoo tree never affected your system. In any event, dev-lang/perl-5.24.1-r...

Re: Gentoo live-USB for Bubba|2 updated (Linux 4.9.16 LTS)

Hi - For anyone who is running Gentoo on their B2, and is subscribed to the https://isshoni.org/b2 binhost, please note that the weekly binary package update has not yet been pushed. Version 5.4.0-r3 of gcc went stable for ppc in the Gentoo tree last week, and this package (which has to build locall...

Hello, I've just released version 1.4.0 of the live-USB image of Arch Linux for the B3 on GitHub ( here ). All included packages are up-to-date against the Arch tree, as of 15 April 2017. The kernel supplied on the image is 4.10.8-1-ARCH, and as before, will be updated (along with the rest of your p...

Gentoo: aes-ctr issue with openssh / armv5tel / hpn

In case this is of use to anyone out there running Gentoo on their B3, I have recently run into an issue with net-misc/openssh (and friends such as scp, rsync etc.), when performing large transfers using a counter mode AES cipher, and have tentatively traced it to the use of the "hpn" USE ...

Issue updating Arch Linux on B3 (ca-certificates-utils)

Hi, if you are running Arch on your B3, you may have experienced an issue when attempting to update recently: [root@archb3 ~]# pacman -Syu ... error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files) ca-certificates-utils: /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt exists in filesystem Errors occurred, no pa...

Re: Gentoo live-USB for Bubba|2 updated (Linux 4.9.16 LTS)

Hi Andy - yes, apps-editor/nano is actually cited indirectly, via virtual/editor (part of the @system set) on the live-USB image, so if you explicitly emerge another editor that satisfies this virtual, such as vim or emacs (see /usr/portage/virtual/editor/editor-0.ebuild for the full list), nano wil...

Re: Gentoo live-USB for Bubba|2 updated (Linux 4.9.16 LTS)

Hi, the first automated weekly B2 build / rsync run appears to have gone through OK this weekend, with new-version binary packages for sqlite and mariadb (amongst others) having been pushed to the archive at https://isshoni.org/b2 . If you are putting together a crontab script to automate genup at y...

Re: Gentoo live-USB for Bubba|2 updated (Linux 4.9.16 LTS)

If you have installed to the original HDD you should be fine, you'll have sufficient capacity and inodes for Gentoo. But I'll have a look at the install_on_sda.sh script to see what might be causing the need for the extra sync's during the install copy. Do let me know if you have any problems comple...

Re: Gentoo live-USB for Bubba|2 updated (Linux 4.9.16 LTS)

Hi Andy - glad to hear that your system is now up ^-^ What configuration exactly do you have for the HDD on your B2? Is the 16GB Cruzer Dial the USB stick you mention the one you wrote the live-USB image to, or are you trying to use this as your main drive (i.e. have you got a SATA disk in your B2 a...

Re: Gentoo live-USB for Bubba|2 updated (Linux 4.9.16 LTS)

Hi again Andy - To expand on my previous reply a little - when the B2 boots from USB, U-Boot tries to load (for 2nd rev B2 systems such as yours) the Flat Image Tree (FIT) file 8313E21.itb into memory, from the 'install' directory on the USB key's first partition. U-Boot, which is a standalone mini ...

Re: Gentoo live-USB for Bubba|2 updated (Linux 4.9.16 LTS)

Hi Andy, seems you are booting 8313E21.itb, which is the same as that used by my local B2, so it is a little strange that it doesn't work (as I tried downloading, burning and booting the image before announcing). Do you have another USB device connected to your B2? Have you tried booting the new ima...

Re: Gentoo live-USB for Bubba|2 updated (rev 1 boards supported)

Andy - one other quick point I forgot to mention - if you already have a long @world merge running, you will need to restart it (after updating make.conf) for it to use the prebuilt binary packages from isshoni.org.

Hi,

well FWIW I have a 64-bit Gentoo image for the RPi3, here, if that is of interest. Currently my daily driver.

Hello, I've just released version 1.4.0 of the live-USB image of Gentoo Linux for the Bubba|2 (B2) on GitHub ( here ). The kernel has been upgraded to version 4.9.16 , which is a long-term-support variant. All included packages are up-to-date against the Gentoo tree, as of 25 March 2017. A full pack...

Re: Gentoo live-USB for Bubba|2 updated (rev 1 boards supported)

Hi Andy, I've recently been gifted a replacement B2, and have just released a 1.4.0 live USB (on GitHub, here ) with a fully updated package set (as of 25 Mar 2017) and 4.9.16 LTS kernel. You may find this more convenient to use than soldiering on with the update (which will probably take the best p...
