Re: Using USB for Outside Line Connection

Hi all, I'd like to add a warning to my previous post: After plugging in an USB/ethernet adapter just to test something, my B3 no longer booted. I got messages similar to "IF: Wrong eth0!" (sorry, might not be exact as the logs are gone now). It has taken me several days to get it back to ...

Re: Using USB for Outside Line Connection

EDIT: Sorry, I obviously didn't read the entire chain of previous posts. I missed it was a tethered USB connection from an Android phone. But: I just plugged in my Android device via USB, and enabled USB tether mode on it, and the same thing goes: It shows up as a proper network interface (usb0) on ...

Re: hard disc temperature

Hi, I guess you have a WD Green in your B2. According to WD's spec sheets the operating temperature is 0-60 degrees Celsius. Running at a higher temperature might shorten the life of the disk, but on the other hand it is like a light-bulb: it will fail sooner or later. It might fail the day after yo...

Re: New wiki

The wiki didn't offer the rich editor, so I modified my language preference to English. Then I had access to the rich editor, disabled it and accessed to the normal wiki syntax article source. So I suppose this has to do with the language preference ... I will stay in English for now ! That sounds ...

Re: New wiki

I am trying today to update my wiki articles but when I click on Edit, the article source is messed up : instead of wiki syntax I get HTML generated code, which breaks everything. Are you aware of this problem ? Hi MouettE, I've just tried, and I had no such problems. Have you perhaps pressed the &...

Re: FTP Backup version control

Hi, This is what I do. Please be aware that I have only tested a restore the "soft" way - i.e. never had to actually restore it after a real loss of data - only in test scenarios. I used to use rsync directly, but even though it encrypts the transfer (depending on protocol), the files are ...

New restore/rescue image (or documentation on the current)

Dear B2/B3 developers (whoever you are these days :-)), The USB rescue/reinstall stick has proven to be invaluable over the years, but it is somewhat cumbersome to use: 1. I have to set up another DHCP server on my network 2. I have to access it on an arbitrary IP-address (not that big of a problem,...

1) How to use Wakeup-On-LAN from bubba to wake-up PC 2) How to use Wakeup-On-LAN from PC to wake-up bubba (I modified the numbers in your quote to make the answer clearer) 1. Wake up a PC from your B1/B2/B3 1.1 Make sure the PC motherboard supports WakeOnLan, and that it is enabled in BIOS (it usua...

Sadly, no. I've had to spend far too much time working lately.
Only the occasional tinkering with the B3, some new script or such things.
You?

Re: B2 + B3

Maybe I just started younger than you @cheeseboy I sincerely hope not. That would give me a serious inferiority complex :-) I built the Nascom in 1977, and immediately set about designing a DMA controller and Floppy Disk interface (because we only had tape storage then too). I laid out and etched t...

Hehe, I can't wait until we get some kind of electronic equivalent of neurological memory. Preferably endlessly extendible, editable and indexable. Nascom 2, heh? You must be older than me... My first was one of these (just external link to pic this time): http://jscustom.theoldcomputer.com/images/m...

Re: Do the e-SATA ports support Port Multiplier?

I could be mistaken about this - going from memory. You are not mistaken. That was my picture of my B3, Addonics SATA port multiplier (mentioned earlier), S1 disk-enclosures etc. http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2742&p=22406#p22406 I had to remove the picture some time ago. Or r...

Re: Struggling to setup B3! Can´t create users and can´t upd

I remember there were several issues with the B3 when it came out-of-the-box, that all came down to the Time-zone not being set. If you can log in to the web-interface with the admin user, check under "Settings" -> "Time and Language" and try to change the timezone to your local ...

Re: How do i direct user FTP login to storage folder?

Right now I have set DeafaultRoot to /storage/. How can i log into my home folder without changing DeafaultRoot? Optionally add the storage folder in my home folder. You can't. That is the definition of "root", it is the top level you will be able to access through FTP. You could play aro...
