Re: Installation problems with nakes Bubba TWO

I can format all the sticks, but after that, I can't creat a partition on it: it is just one (usable) disk and partitioning is not offered in the menu (greyed out). Formatting comes AFTER partitioning! You can re-partition only after deleting the existing partitions on the stick, which Windows Disk...

Success! And a rescue adventure

I finally managed to configure the bubba2 (now renamed "antares") as a drop-in replacement for my old (laptop) home gateway server ("procyon"). And I did drop it in, and indeed it functions very well as a replacement. Now to explore the more advanced possibilities of the bubba2 (...

Hi jsw, Just running "apt-get update" does actually not upgrade anything, it just gets the list of possible updates from the servers. The upgrade process consists of two command: apt-get update (that retreives the list of wich packages are available) and apt-get dist-upgrade that actually...

Does apt-get update also update the firmware, or is that a different procedure?

Hi all, This is new to us, we are trying our best to reproduce it in order to find the issue. Do I understand correctly that this is two separate issues? 1) Bubba goes down when copying large amounts of data? 2) Filemanager upload doesn't handle large files. This is a known issue we are working wit...

the web admin shutdown calls /sbin/poweroff (which is an symlink to /sbin/halt) /Carl In my case, also /sbin/poweroff does not work (as root). Nor does "shutdown -hP now". The only neat way of stopping the box is by pressing the reset button until the light blinks. In /etc/default/ is a f...

Re: Installation problems with nakes Bubba TWO

Still waiting for some suggestions to make it run anytime soon. Anyone? Windows XP (maybe other kinds of windows as well) has a program called Computer Management which you can start as follows: Click Start , click Run , type compmgmt.msc , and then click OK . Then click on "Disk Management&qu...

Oh, yes, of course. I should have included the "now" in my post. The problem is, as root:
"shutdown -r now" works.
"shutdown -h now" does not work; machine keeps blinking forever.

shutdown problem

shutdown -r as root works OK; connections are cut, half a minute (or so) of blinkenlights, machine comes up again. But shutdown -h doesn't work. A shutdown message is broadcast over the LAN, connections are cut, and the machine goes into blinkenlights state -- forever. Pressing the button on the bac...

Finally got ADSL (pptp) working.

Finally got it working. Router/firewall with static addresses in my home LAN, internet connection through planet.nl (nowadays kpn.nl) using an Alcatel Speedtouch ADSL modem over pptp/ppp, and only using the provider's nameservers. I had to completely reinstall the system several times using a stick;...

LED light

The blue LED light is now on the "front", while everything else is at the "back". Difficult for the user, especially if the device is placed in some out-of-the-way position (as it normally would be). So far I resolved the problem using a small mirror, but this is clearly sub-opti...

It is extremely important that when I change the gateway from the old laptop to the Bubba, it should work the first time. Well, my wife should not notice any change. By messing about with various settings and using my Debian experience I can now access the Bubba through the LAN interface, both throu...

Website / Web interface design

PLEASE do not use a black or dark-grey background colour. Dark letters on light background is by far the best. In order to avoid the awfully "kewl" light-gray letters on white, I configured my Firefox to use black letters always. This helps readability in most cases, apart from Excito, whi...

Static IP problem

Got my Bubba 2 today. My present home setup is: 1. an ADSL modem. 2. a very old (1996) laptop with two NIC's, running Debian Sarge, connected to 1 and 3. 3. an Ethernet switch. 4. two desktop computers, one running Ubuntu Hardy, one running Debian Sid, both connected to 3. All addresses in the syste...
