Re: B3: dist-upgrade Squeeze -> Wheezy?
There is however a dependency on a package named bubba3-kernel, so to upgrade to wheezy you should at least have a new bubba3-kernel package that supplies kernel version 3.2 or above. From a bare metal Debian wheezy this should then enable you to install all the bubba packages. That's the point - t...

Re: B3: dist-upgrade Squeeze -> Wheezy?
No, I didn't dare. There are too many Excito specific packets installed which are supposed to generate trouble if not removed prior to the upgrade. This includes a "bubba-kernel v2.6.39.beaufils wrote:Did you try the dist-upgrade on your b3 ?

Re: Finding out what's using disk
I think SD (or flash which is actually IMO a little better) as a primary drive is a very good idea. Yes, if there is some kind of error detection an correction. This can be either in the hardware (like in rotational disks or SSD's) or can be in the filesystem itself. That's why there are dedicated ...

Re: Finding out what's using disk
:idea: Maybe the SD card addition is a good idea for the next generation Bubba - the B4. You could probably also run the whole system from a well sized SDHC and use the harddisk for swap and user storage only. I really doubt that a SD card is a good choice. I had attached some time ago such a piece...

Re: Finding out what's using disk
Great tuning work Gordon! Here also Samba is the most disturbing service with regard to HD spin-down. I now banned my Smart-TV from network, because it spams the network and thus wakes up my B3 several times a day. Now with only Linux machines in the network and using just NFSv4 for data exchange al...

Re: 'dpkg-reconfigure bubba-album' - what to answer?
Thanks lelle, it appears that the database album is what ist really needed. ' bubbaalbum ' in my installation/upgrade is probably the album created of a few 10 slides in my "pictures folder" which Excito had installed in my B3 when it was shipped - with firmware version 2.4 at that time.

Re: Guest network routing, WLAN extension (e.g. WDS) etc
Hi Ingo, I have a similar cron job, logging on and prolonging the registered name twice every month. I think you got my information wrong: It is not sufficient to "refresh your hostname" regularly (as many routers do). You are additionally asked to login on their web site checking your ac...

Re: Guest network routing, WLAN extension (e.g. WDS) etc
Every firewall rule that you add to the B3 will persist reboots. That is actually very dangerous and the reason why I did a rewrite of the standard INIT-V firewall script that makes this behaviour optional. You'll find it in the Howto section on this forum. I also created a package for it, by annoy...

Re: 'dpkg-reconfigure bubba-album' - what to answer?
Unfortunately there is no direct answer to my questions. Therefore I would call for help from the community. Could anybody who successfully upgraded to 2.6 via the web-interface please post his mysql-databases? Just login and be root, then issue the command mysqlshow and post his output here. This a...

Re: 'dpkg-reconfigure bubba-album' - what to answer?
My situation was just the contrary, I had not used that feature at all. So just that Symlink to some Excito-pictures which were installed by default and nothing else, no database created, nothing. I also did not set any password for mysql - all as it came from stock. I think this issue should have b...

'dpkg-reconfigure bubba-album' - what to answer?
I did the upgrade to B3 version 2.6 by command line using ' apt-get dist-upgrade '. This worked fine until it came to upgrade/configuration of "bubba-album" - which I had to skip because appearently apt was not able to delete/remove/convert the existing database. All other packages were up...

Re: Finding out what's using disk
The amazing thing is that with my ear to the machine it sounds like the disk keeps on spinning all the time, even though the machine shouldn't be doing anything. Not sure if that's what it is supposed to do... I recommend (I did this) to manually install 'hdparm' and configure it in /etc/hdparm.con...

Re: Finding out what's using disk
Got my new B3 in yesterday and did some first experiments today. Things I found: There's a cron job for clearing old PHP session files every 30 minutes at 09 and 39 and I wonder if that really needs to be run that often on a server that attracts just a couple of users per hour (or even none during ...
