Bubbagen live-USB for B3 updated (version 1.14)

Hi, I've just released version 1.14 of the Bubbagen live-USB image for B3 on GitHub. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gordonb3/cache/master/Bubba/bubbagen-screenshots.jpg This is mostly a service release as it will prove difficult to get your system up to par when starting from the previous release...

Re: Install system via x64 Linux?

Yes, it is really just copying files/extracting a tarball. The main question however is what OS you want to install. The original OS installation defaults to setting up a Logical Volume for swap and /home to enable RAID setup. If you are using the original disk you require `mdadm` and `lvm2` package...

Re: Leaking RTC batteries

It will work. Only thing that happens is that on reboot the clock will reset to a hardware specific date. I have this on my bubbagen developer machine where the RTC in fact still didn't work any more after replacing the battery. I use a local.d startup script (rclocal in Debian) to set the correct t...

Re: Buster - LMS on B3

Not so much on Buster... What glibc and perl versions does that have? You could try to run the bin version of LMS 7.8 I prepared for Gentoo Linux (up to perl 5.30): - LMS core: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.8.0 - CPAN files: https://github.com/gordonb3/logitechmediaserver-c...

Re: Access existing WiFi?

Of course you can. You can't manage it through the web GUI though. How to autorun wpa_supplicant on Debian startup Don't forget to edit the firewall rules as well. These are stored in /etc/firewall.conf and in it you will find a line stating -A INPUT -i eth1 -j ACCEPT Duplicate this line directly be...

Re: Openning the b3

You appear to have the older version with the embossed B3 logo on the front. In this version the disk is kept in place by two L-shaped profiles that are screwed to it. The problem is that these profiles fit really tight in the case and as the edges are not rounded and the material is harder than the...

Re: Debian buster (10) image 1.0 released for B3

Don't think so. It might not auto-mount the thumb drive, but it should be able to show it's partition(s) in the `disk` view. It's actually not really required to install bubbagen from a USB stick, but it is the most straight forward method. In my developer environment I loop-mount the disk image fil...

Re: Debian buster (10) image 1.0 released for B3

You mean, if you go to `ht tp://b3/admin/disk` that you don't see a second disk when you have a thumb drive inserted? That will make it pretty hard to install a new OS. As for pre-installed services, most of the projects published here will get you a vanilla system. The only project that offers (mos...

Logitech Media Server 8.0 for Gentoo running B2|B3

Hi, I have updated the Bubba overlay for Gentoo with a much needed upgrade from Logitech Media Server 7.8 to the new official stable 8.0. Having improved on the installation method, the need for a separate `bin` version (B3 only) no longer exists and therefore existing [bubbagen] users will be requi...

Re: Maximum disk size

There's no real limitation that I'm aware of. That said, I did have to hack one of my units to prefer boot from USB in order to allow it to run from the installed SSD drive. Do note though that if you choose a mechanical drive it must be a low rev drive - no more than 5400 RPM. Nothing real serious ...

Re: Debian buster (10) image 1.0 released for B3

As an aside, is it normal in later versions of Debian to see so many tmpfs mounts, especially the /run prefixed ones? Yes. It is. As far as I know every modern distribution does it. The idea is that if the system crashes (which of course it shouldn't), when restarting it should not prevent any serv...

Re: Problems

Right... sorry. Assumed you would have some Linux knowledge. You need to make a SSH connection to the B3. If you never did that before check the Wiki page for instructions. Once in SSH you should change directory (`cd` command) to `/home/storage` which is the `storage` share you see on the network. ...

Re: Upgrade all the way from squeeze :D

Depends on whether you (and he) want to stick to Debian and how much work you want to put into it. I maintain a working port of the original interface that I translate into Gentoo packages. There is no reason why my patches to the original software would not work if you (partially) applied them to r...
