Re: .htaccess doesn't work

There was a how-to in the section at the bottom of the forum on how to enable .htaccess as its not switched on in the webserver by default. Have you had a look at that?

Re: Network failure

Follow the instructions on the forum to create a bootable USB rescue disk. This will then enable you to log in to the system via SSH and see what is going on.

Re: Bubba backup ... not working ??

Not trying to teach you to suck eggs here, but how is your eSata disk formatted. Commonest cause of backups to fail at around 2.4GB is because its FAT32, as that is the theoretical limit of FAT32.

Re: Network and disk throughput

I wouldn't say cable quality is bogus; good quality cables whether Cat 5 or Cat 6 are going to be better than cheap or poorly made ones and STP will be less prone to outside influence than UTP, but in this case, they are not the limiting factor. It was definitely worth spending the 3GBP to replace t...

Re: Bacula on Bubba|2

Stick a how-to in the Wiki, so that people can use it. Duplicity is a pain, which is why I gave up on it and use rsync instead, but bacula is a more user friendly option for the non geeks amongst us :)

Re: Remote desktop to PCs behind BUBBA.

In simple terms, its encrypted over the SSH part and you don't have to mess with your firewall or setup.

Re: Network and disk throughput

Hi Guys, Ok: here is the definitive answer. I have spoken to Excito at length and confirmed their answer with my own testing. Network throughput is limited by the speed of the CPU in the current Bubba2. With my Bubba 'maxxing' out at just over 7MB/s throughput, CPU utilisation is 100%, so it simply ...

Re: Remote desktop to PCs behind BUBBA.

vncserver works quite well, just open up you port on the firewall, so data can flow. You can also tunnel your vnc over SSH, if you want to avoid opening up lots of ports.
RDP is a bit messy as you can't pre-select the port you want open AFAIK

Re: Network and disk throughput

Let's not get into a technical discussion about standards, or we can start talking about 2 pairs for 100Base-TX and all 4 pairs for 1000BaseT using the same 125MBaud as 100Base-X, but with a level 5 noise immunity achieving the same as the 3 level on 100Base-X, but with a 4 dimensional trellis Coded...

Re: Force Bubba to use https

It is definitely possible. I always access my webserver and webmail over https. I just accept the locally generated cert 'error'.

I'll look up that error message we spoke about today and let you know anything i find.

Re: Network and disk throughput

Network speeds are measured in Mb or Mbits data capacity is measured in MB or MBytes. Its industry standard notation and has been for a very very long time. I'm currently looking at the kernel /proc ipv4 and tcp options for sysctl -p to see if I can spot why this is worse than it should be and maybe...
