Re: mailserver setup

It's called TLS and it's an encryption protocol (SSL). It's most commonly used to enable relaying to other domains and you should never see this when talking to a recipients mail server. If you don't configure postfix to use a relayhost it will act as a smarthost and try to deliver emails directly t...

Re: mailserver setup

The mailserver is called dovecot. You should verify the following lines in /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf: protocols = imap imaps mail_location = maildir:~/Mail For Horde to be able to display your email, the protocols line should at least read imap . Also note the mail location ~/Mail - mailservers can ...

Re: Samba config OOTB on B3

Part of the issue here is the default umask used by the B3, making everything world readable *and* writeable. The exact reason is unknown, but it would appear that is done to allow some services access to home folders (quite possibly the web-admin interface). The straight forward solution to get aro...

Re: Something wicked happened resolving 'b3.update.excito.or

I think I saw that message pop up myself. I found that one of the upgrades performs a stop/start on some of the networking components which made this more of an issue to me at that time than it should with unaltered boxes. Still, I imagine there can be other causes for networking not to restore itse...

I agree. If all fails that has to be the only remaining (and hazardous) trick. Still... Can you verify with the host or ping command that nameresolving is actually still functional? i.e. that not something else went wrong in this scheme? The current message seems to indicate that nameresolving just ...

Re: Something wicked happened resolving 'b3.update.excito.or

Note: to make the previous a permanent change, you should edit the file /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers, domain-name, domain-name-servers, host-name, netbios-name-servers, netbios-scope; timeout 10; Remove the element mar...

Re: Something wicked happened resolving 'b3.update.excito.or

I did some further looking into this and it appears to be a recurring problem for some years now. The problem is in fact caused by a DNS issue. To be more specific this is about the DNS client modules being used, so while 'host' and 'ping' may work, 'apt' and probably 'wget' can fail. Prior issues n...

Re: Squeezebox won't "clear library and rescan everything"

If you want to force rescanning a particular folder, it is sufficient to move it outside the music tree and press the scan button. This will wipe the corresponding entries in Squeezebox, after which you can move the files back in and rescan to have them processed as new files.

Re: Something wicked happened resolving 'b3.update.excito.or

Does possibly the excito website have a problem causing my issues? Or is the fact 'my workstation not pingable by my B3' the reason for my problem? No, this was to establish whether the problem was with networking in general (local cause) or due to routing and/or name resolving (external cause). I'...

Re: Something wicked happened resolving 'b3.update.excito.or

Hard to say without knowing your configuration. Is your B3 configured for - Automatic network settings - Router + Firewall + Server - Server only How is your workstation connected to the network and internet and where does the B3 sit in this? On the B3, can you ping your workstation? Can you also pi...

Re: Can't access http://b3:9000

MacAfee doesn't have anything to do with this problem. The service just doesn't enable the listener and what isn't there can not be blocked (i.e. it wouldn't make any difference if it did). Since you're on a rather old software version there's not much for me to compare. I found an article that migh...

Contributing: A decent firewall script

After having experimented with Shorewall I decided to implement my own ruleset around some xtables-addons and was again confronted with the weirdness of the bubba-firewall script that promptly caused me to overwrite the default rules myself (which is stupid because I knew it did that ). Anyway...
