Re: B3 replacement
One thing we haven't mentioned in this thread, about exit strategies from the B3, is what sort of community there is around thealternative devices. A quick search showed that there is a small community around the Turris omnia at https://forum.turris.cz/about I mention this because the community here...

Re: B3 replacement
If you're looking for a NAS for 3.5" drives, the Gnubee 2 is probably a decent alternative to the B3, although it's not pretty to look at and lacks wifi. Gnubee also offer a variant for 2.5" drives. https://www.crowdsupply.com/gnubee/personal-cloud-2 Otherwise the Turris Omnia ticks a lot ...

Re: Debian stretch (9) image 1.0 released for B3
Here's a brief report of a successful Stretch installation using this image. It worked flawlessly. Thanks! :) I made a fresh install, configured install.ini to wipe the drive and create a root partition of 20 GB. I also configured a static ip on the LAN interface using install.ini. Everything worked...

Re: Debian 9 stretch
- The kernel will probably be a 4.10 kernel as stretch should use it and it would also be an official LTS kernel Mouette, enjoy your vacation, and thanks for all the work on maintaining Debian releases for B3 & co! Now, the actual stretch release uses a 4.9 kernel, not 4.10[0]. Will the B3 stre...

Re: Debian jessie image 1.0 released for Bubba|2 / B3
Well, now when the WD Blue disk is installed I won't change it. Just check the power consumption on the new drive compared to the original. The WD Green I have from a B3 has the model number WD10EARS. AFAICT the max power consumption on that drive is 4.1 Watt. A 500 GB Blue might be either 6 W or 3...

Re: "Portable" version of Logitech Media Server (B3 only)
Debian users will probably want to put it in /usr/share, others in /opt. Gordon, perhaps you meant /usr/local? I've never heard of anyone promoting /usr/share as a location for locally installed software on Debian. I cant see that the FHS recommends using /usr/share for that purpose either. I'd rec...

Re: Excito B3 Filestructure (pictures, videos, music)
No need to install linux on any PC. Simply stick a Live CD/DVD in the Windows PC and boot from it. Of course. And if the PC supports it, no need to waste a blank CD/DVD either, just load linux from a bootable usb-memory. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows https://f...

Re: Excito B3 Filestructure (pictures, videos, music)
I was not sucessful... Please be a bit more detailed with what you tried and how it failed. This is a great community, but I'm pretty sure none of us are mind readers. :) I'd say your own proposal, to remove the disk and try to mount the partition on another computer is good. Though not easy, it is...

Re: PHP security and abandonware
@Gordon: We'll have to agree to disagree about php's inherent security qualities. The internet is already flooded by debates on that topic, yet another one here wont change the facts for either side. My main point was more about using unmaintained software. As long as there isn't anyone officially t...

Re: Successful dist-upgrade to wheezy on a B3
Did you try to re-install the bubba packages afterwards, or is this impossible? Sorry for the late reply, Johannes. No, I didn't try to reinstall the bubba packages, the bubba-kernel is the only package I have left. I do not need or want the other stuff. Generally, most of the bubba stuff is php-ba...

Successful dist-upgrade to wheezy on a B3
Hi all, Today I performed a dist-upgrade to wheezy rev 7.8, starting from a default B3 software 2.6.0.2 installation, and it seems to have worked fine. I just wanted to share the success as there are failed wheezy dist-upgrade attempts described in other threads. I started by reverting to a minimal ...

Re: Product launch: TV on demand just got better!
Thank you Johannes for your sincere response on the openness issue. While obviously it is a strategy that I'd hope you'd be able to avoid, I do understand that there are some business reasons behind it. I'll keep my eye out for future open products from Excito and in the meanwhile I'll continue to e...

Re: Kernel source for 2.6.39.4-11
I notice the kernel source for 2.6.39.4-11 is not available ... In general I'd expect the source for a debian package to be published in the package archive, rather than in a separate location. Right now Excito's debian archive seems only to contain the source for 2.6.39.4-9 which isn't the latest ...

Will Excito open up TV sweden?
When I bought my B3 I was really excited about a Swedish company that appeared to completely embraced the concepts of open source and open hardware. Since then the waining maintenance of bubba source repositories and your work with the completely proprietary V1 has me worried. TV Sweden is a cool gi...
