Re: Do the e-SATA ports support Port Multiplier?
I have just bought a Fantec QB-35USB2 4-disk eSata disk cabinet, which needs a FIS port multiplier to work. I have upgraded my B3 to the latest excito kernel (2.6.38) so I can't tell if it works with the previous kernel (2.6.35), but it works like a charm, see the relevant bits of the dmesg output. ...

Re: RAID5
Made a small typo: mdadm --create /dev/md0 --level 5 --raid-devices 4 /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sdd /dev/sde Should be: mdadm --create /dev/md0 --level=5 --raid-devices=4 /dev/sdb /dev/sdc /dev/sdd /dev/sde the equal sign is necessary when using the full description commands, in short this should be: m...

Re: RAID5
Since the B3 only has one eSata port and you need at least three disks for a RAID 5 setup you need an external box with four disks (they usually come in 2, 4 and 8 disks). One of the things to look out for is that you need one with a port multiplier, a FIS based one. Excito has tested one and couldn...

Re: Best way to fsck bubba-storage
You could also email the excito team at rt@excito.net.
They know the thing inside out and I have very good experience with them for fixing problems.

Re: Best way to fsck bubba-storage
So it doesn't show up in mount, then it isn't mounted. Are you using your bubba-storage as a separate storage or using the raid option (don't know if B2 can do this, but it is an option in B3). Do you have the filesystem mounted automatically at boot time? If so you can set the system to check the f...

Re: Best way to fsck bubba-storage
Couple of things you can try to unmount /home/storage:
- fuser /home/storage, shows what processes are using /home/storage
- umount -f (force)
- /etc/init.d/smb stop, stop samba
Just a few ideas.

Re: Do the e-SATA ports support Port Multiplier?
I want to bump this thread up, as it is too interesting to let it die. Johannes/Tor, any updates on this? Wouldn't it be an idea for excito to create a bubba storage with 2 or 4 disks and a FIS based port multiplier build in? That way it can be used on the B3 as extra storage (beit RAID 0, 1, or 5 (...

Re: Cannot boot from rescue usb
I had to use the rescue usb because I buggered up the iptables stuff and couldn't get in. Since I am not good in updating the wiki maybe somebody else could do that? Anyway, here is what I did: - Downloaded the appropriate rescue/install image (in my case for the b3). - Formatted a USB stick with FA...

Re: B3 and squeezecenter
My directory access rights where fine. However, I got an answer from excito (thanks Tor). According to him the update of the squeezecenter wasn't done properly. So I had to remove it and reinstall. As root: apt-get remove --purge squeezecenter Make very sure that it says 1 packet to remove. If not c...

B3 and squeezecenter
Has anyone got sqeeuzecenter to work properly? It is up and running now (although I had some errors first, they seem to be fixed after a reboot, all plain stock installation). Unfortunately, I can only see the first artist on the share and its album, but nothing more, so it only scanned the first di...

Re: Do the e-SATA ports support Port Multiplier?
Any idea of this external port multiplier is going to work?
Would be nice to see if excito could test this.

Re: Services do not start right.
The problem with samba I have encountered as well, excito is aware of this and trying to look for a solution. The (quick-fix) solution I found to be working (for samba) is to add a "sleep 2" between the starting of the nmbd daemon and the smbd daemon in the /etc/init.d/samba script. I get ...

Re: Samba not started after reboot
I don't have a B3 with wireless, so the interfaces parameter already points to eth1, and still samba wouldn't start on boot/reboot (but it did when I manually started it: /etc/init.d/samba start) I fixed it by inserting a "sleep 2" into the /etc/init.d/samba script between where nmbd is st...

access rights on storage directory
By accident I removed the storage directory (/home/storage) and had to add it again.
It's all working again, but could someone just list the access rights for me?
Thanks,
Albert
P.S. I mean a "ls -la /home"

Re: Do the e-SATA ports support Port Multiplier?
If a port multiplier doesn't work, then you only can add one extra Sata disk. What the port multiplier does effectively is multiplexing all drives on one port, that internal port controller needs to de-multiplex the drives and deliver it as separate drives to the OS. That's the reason why it only wo...
