Re: B3 heating even if not ON.

Oh well, here comes the requested beeper script.... 1. Become root. 2. Create a nice place for your script: root@b3:~# cd ~ root@b3:~# mkdir bin root@b3:~# cd bin 3. If you haven't got hddtemp installed, install it: root@b3:~/bin# apt-get install hddtemp 4. Create the file and make it executable: ro...

Re: B3 heating even if not ON.

Excellent idea! The problem is: What do you do when you want your B3 to control the transmitter to the remote relays? It cannot turn itself on, it cannot be turned on with WOL... If I could afford a more expensive USP, or perhaps even a remotely controllable UDP I might be in business... But how am ...

Re: B3 heating even if not ON.

Are you sure?
There is plenty of built-in logic in them-there newfangled SATA disks.
Surely it has a CPU and other bits that will produce heat when powered on?

Re: B3 heating even if not ON.

@ Cheeseboy - smartmontools could be a good idea, i will think about it. The point was "I hear the beep sound I turn fan speed to be higher" but for sure some of my neighbors may be little bit nervous after two hrs of beeping :D :D :D :D :D :D  The beep is such a tiny noise anyway,...

Re: B3 heating even if not ON.

The mobo makes quite a bit of difference. Ah. Maybe my previous answer was a bit unclear. The original question was about a B3 that was turned off . In that case the HD should not be producing any heat and all thats left is the mobo to account for the high temperature. I agree that the presence of ...

Re: B3 heating even if not ON.

still if the machine is turned off via the web interface (which I assume has happened) the disk should be parked right? And the mobo isn't able to heat the entire body 10deg over ambient. So it is a little strange. If however the b3 was shutdown via command line the drive will indeed remain on, and...

Re: B3 heating even if not ON.

The only way to truly "turn it off" is to pull the power plug after you have shut it down.

Re: SeaFile server on B2?

Hi Ralph, In short: no. Question though: Did you try to install one of the pre-compiled packages? That won't work. You will have to build it from source, as your B2 has got a different CPU architecture... https://github.com/haiwen/seafile/wiki/Build-and-deploy-seafile-server-from-source Best regards...

Re: Error message.

Hi flimflam, If you are referring to the "console-kit-daemon" messages: They are WARNINGs only. They are the result of old things that still hang about in the kernel. Options (as far as I'm aware): - Ignore them - Configure rsyslog to ignore them (have a look in /etc/rsyslog.d for examples...

Re: Magnetlinks on B3

Hi Ubi, Nice to read your friendly words again :-) I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to things like that, as I only use it for things I could get dragged to court for... The amount of fiddling I had to do with that piece of software, and the piss-poor documentation, and the attitude of the developers...

Re: Magnetlinks on B3

EDIT: Complete re-write. Ubi is right, my post was meaningless. Ignore it. The answers to most or perhaps all of your questions are in the link provided by Ubi in the previous post. BTW is there always some internal transmission log recorded on disc? If you want to. You can set "message-level&q...

Re: Bridge WAN and LAN interfaces on B3

Hi makai, I guess you have got a B3 without built-in WiFi and that you have set up the bridge yourself? (from looking at your file contents) If I'm wrong, stop reading now, and ignore me. I have a very similar setup at work with my old B2 (sans WiFi). I found that the "router/firewall/DHCP serv...

Re: B2 Power Supply

Thank you Johannes for your time to answer all those questions. Come to think about it, it is pretty obvious really... I have a heavily shielded expensive USB cable to connect my TellStick Duo to my B3. It is long - so the device can be as far away from the rest of the EMI madness around the B3 (it ...

Re: B2 Power Supply

Thank you very much Johannes! I will now go and look for PSU's without them in my home. I'm a bit suspicious though: I use a tellstick and many devices sending and receiving puny electromagnetical signals from it. Moving a PSU a few centimetres on my floor will effect the effectiveness of the device...
