More on Etch install images

We have a bit of sad news.

After a long struggle with an image that would repartition bubba, preserving user data, and do a fresh Debian Etch install. We have come to the conclusion that with the resorces we can put into it, we cant get it stable/efficient enough for common use.

What we will try to do instead, for those users that wont do a complete reinstall and yet want a Debian Etch based firmware, is to support an upgrade without the reinstall phase. This is what is called a dist upgrade that some of you have done already.

This means that we can already do a complete reinstall with the partioning now and have the Bubba functionalities ? What I want to ask is: Is the Etch reinstall image stable to use it ?

Boy, it means that you should be able to use the reinstall image and get a mostly functional system. Atm there is a few known errors, but nothing critical as far as what we know now. And we will continue to use the software repositories as defined in that image. So one should get the fixes when they are done.

Maybe I missed something, but is it possible to do a dist-upgrade to Etch yet without breaking the bubba specific packages like for instance the webinterface and/or ftd? I don't want to do a complete reinstall because I have way too much data on it that I don't want to transfer to bubba again...
