PDF Printing to user home directory

Post by Xolo »

Enable the CUPS printing service on Bubba to act as a PDF printing facility.
(This could be done via a backend such as CUPS-PDF in Debian)
User prints from Computer to Bubba; resulting document is deposited in their home directory.

Ah, nice idea. But can you please explain the main use case here? I mean, pdf printers are widely available directly in windows/linux/mac? What would the main benefit be?

For me this would be a use case: iPads now have printing support but no real filesystem to save to. If I wanted a copy of something like a webpage I could print it to a network shared PDF printer and the copy would land in my Bubba's home directory.

I guess it's useful for anyone who can't save files to the Bubba via NFS/Samba/FTP etc.

Thanks, understood. It's now on our list. Quite far down though, so no promises..
