AlienBBC Installed

Post by cmcevoy »

I considered installing the AlienBBC plugin for Squeezecentre with some trepidation as I've had problems getting it to run on my PC.
However, with nothing more than

Code: Select all

apt-get install mplayer
and unpacking the latest AlienBBC into /usr/share/squeezecentre
then

Code: Select all

chmod a+x /usr/share/squeezecentre/Plugins/Alien/Bin/mplayer.sh
/etc/init.d/squeezecentre restart
and wait a couple of minutes for Squeezecentre to start responding again,
It Works!
no problems - so now all BBC live feeds and Listen Again programmes are available.
Another triumph for the little server.

squeezecenter performance

Post by cgl72 »

Charles,

Could you perhaps comment on the squeezecenter performance on BubbaTwo?

Number of tracks, rescan duration, web interface responsiveness etc?

Also, are you using a squeezebox Duet? Which version of squeezecenter? Is the bubba doing the routing on your network?

Thank you very much for your poste.

Charles,

Thank you very much for your good "how-to" on AlienBBC. It worked like a charm !!

Magnus

PS.1
I had to substitute squeezecentre for squeezecenter on my B2.

PS.2
I had to learn the command wget and how to unpack gz files using Midnight Commander. Good knowledge that I did not have previously :-)

Performance is fine - a bit slower than running it from my main PC but not enough to cause problems. Certainly transcoding FLAC files works fine, as does AlienBBC. The speed of the network is much more significant than the grunt available on the server, I think.

I'm using the squeezecenter version from the main repository (7.2.1)
Yes, I'm using the Duet - lovely little bit of kit but I wish they would do something with the infrared so I could lose one of the other remotes!

Second that - Squeezecenter and Duet works fine - recommended.

I ordered by Bubba|two yesterday for my birthday... I cannot wait to have an "always on" solution for squeezecenter and my duet!
