Release notes for Excito Bubba 2&3 software version 2.6.0.2

Post by johannes »

This is a new update. The upgrade is available only as a web update.

How to upgrade
To upgrade a running system, make sure you don't have any activities running such as uploads, downloads, print jobs etc. Then log in as admin in web-ui. Choose "Settings" menu entry. Choose "Software update" in the sub menu.

Fixed issues
* General security updates (apache, php, ssh, perl, php, python, samba etc.)
* These updates fixes a known security vulnerability that has hit some of our customers (discussed here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4633)
* The update also removes traces of possible intrusions [Edit: by for example wiping the crontab for www-data]

Note that a reboot is recommended after this update, to kill any possible remaining processes from an intrusion.

Props to Excito for your continued maintenance of the B2 & B3 software, despite the "shift of focus" to other products/services.

Upgrading now.

Just a little note to HomeAutomation users. This update wipes all cronjobs for www-data, so scheduling will stop. Just to into the scheduling tab in HomeAutomation and click "recreate schedules" to fix this.

Having done some modifications to the original installation it would be very nice to have a list of all the modified files. It is somewhat tiresome to reinstall the modifications.

Is it possible?

You can do (command line):

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade --dry-run
..to see what packages are affected. I guess it should be possible to automatically generate a list of files from that information, someone who knows?

All that information is logged in /var/log/apt/history.log* and term.log* in Debian.
UNIX is user friendly, it's just picky about who its friends are.

Sorry, could not add this information to list all the files in the packages:

:!: The update is done 3 weeks ago with no issues.
I have done it so as advised and it was more a game then work.
So much fun after reboot and the check of all things. That was
a little bit more work but needed and i have found no issues.

Thanks to the Team that stand behind all this...

Quick question:
Am I the only one finding myself without a /home/web/ directory after this upgrade?
Or was it the work of marauders?

If it was the intentional work of the patch (which I could understand), would it not have been nice to warn people before removing the contents?

If you release a patch, please send clear instructions on what it is going to to do, or if that is considered unsafe to do that, at least tell us what to back up first...

Yes, we've been careful not to erase peoples data (after all, most B3's are probably not hacked), the only possible damage the update did was to empty the crontab for www-data.
