Harddisk allways running

It seems that my Bubbas haddisk is allways running. Even if it has plenty of memory with no swap at all. Is this normal? Can it be changed?

This has been discussed before a number of times. See for example http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?t=104

There is simply not much point in spinning the hard drive down since it's used quite often and spinning up/down just decreases the life time of the disk...

OK - I'll buy that. 5 years guaranteed spin is quite impressive.

My real problem is that the (low) noise bothers me a bit. Do any of you have any experience with cabinets or other measures? Smothering it with a pillow like my whife suggested sounds risky to me :D
