Printer set up missing

Post by cool_tko »

Hi everyone

Just got a nice B3 and I am all new here :-)

Yesterday it set the B3 up and activated the printer function. I added my printer but then could not finish due to an error message of which I do not remember what it said.

As I had no success I made a software update of my box. Now I have:

bubba 2.3.2
bubba-album 2.4~pre2
bubba-backend 2.3.2.11
bubba-frontend 2.3.1
bubba3-kernel 2.6.38-1
filetransferdaemon 0.54
squeezecenter 7.6.1.dfsg1-2

But: my printer menu is disappeared. Normally it should be Disk / Printing / Settings... but I miss the Printing in my menu.

In the log i found this:

Jan 25 23:08:10 b3 udev-add-printer: add_queue: URIs=['usb://Canon/MP800R']
Jan 25 23:08:10 b3 udev-add-printer: D-Bus method call failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name com.redhat.NewPrinterNotification was not provided by any .service files
Jan 25 23:08:10 b3 udev-add-printer: Failed to get D-Bus object for PrinterDriversInstaller: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name com.redhat.PrinterDriversInstaller was not provided by any .service files
Jan 25 23:08:13 b3 dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 5
Jan 25 23:08:18 b3 dhclient: No DHCPOFFERS received.

How do I get this back?

Looking forward to your ideas...

Regards,

Thomas

As I recall, the printer functions are now all automated so there should be no need for a menu.

How do I know to what queue I connect my pc to? Browsing for the printer in windows does not find the printer. Samsung driver installation doesn't find it either.

Not sure, I don't use printers with my B3. You'll need to wait for someone to come along who does.

Attached printers are now shown in the admin main page. When connected they should be shared by CUPS and SAMBA. If they don't let us know, this is a bug. (And a tip could be to restart samba (or B3)) after plugging in the printer, but let us know if this was an issue so we can fix it).

Thanks!

I have restarted B3 couple fo times (because of other reasons) but can't see the printer. I just did it to be sure but Attached printers line is still empty.

relevant? lines from syslog after restart:

Code: Select all

I also got this printer problem. I have a Samsung ML-1670 laser printer. Thing is, it worked fine with B3s factory installed software version. After update(2.3.2) I got nothing, even after trying the suggested steps above.
Hoping on that fix! :P
