Replace /dev/sda and grow LVM system?

Post by Cheeseboy »

Hello bubbanauts!

My current b3 setup uses the S1 storage device via eSATA. /dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb1 are part of a single LVM group.

I'd like to replace the original disk (WD20EARS) that came with my B3 with a new 3TB one (WD30EZRX).
My plan is to clone /dev/sda using clonezilla in one of my PCs, and then grow /dev/sda2 to fill up the newly available space.

Has anyone attempted this before? Is it feasible? Anything I should know?
LVM is still a bit of a mystery to me, so any pointers would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Cheeseboy

Hmm, I would clone both drives so if it doesn't work out then you could revert back to how it was before. This requires a spare 2-3TB drive (depending on the size of your eSATA drive).

Thanks. That sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately I can't afford to follow your advice at this time...
