access file share from wan side of B3?

Post by yoakim »

Hi!

I have a B3 with Wifi option and software version 2.6.0.2.
The B3 is connected to the LAN side of a Fritz!box router which is directly connected to our ISP (fiber connection).

Both the Fritz!box and the B3 have wifi networks available, but the B3 wifi has been quite unstable and is now completely useless, i.e. I can't access anything on B3 or internet once connected. So I stopped using the wireless and started using the wifi net of the fritz!box. When connected to this wifi net I can connect to the B3 using http without problems, but when I try to map a network drive (on my windows 7 machine) to the B3 it can't make a connection. This was never a problem when using the B3 wifi net.

So, I want to access the discs on my B3 from B3's WAN side, it that possible?

Below is a snippet from my samba log along with some status from some commands:

joakim@b3:~$ /etc/init.d/samba restart

I'm not really sure what this means and this is where I need you guys.

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

First off: you need to be root to be able to restart services

But yes, with some fair knowledge of Linux and Samba it will not be a great deal to accomplish what you want. I gather though that you don't. The best option in your case is therefore to loose the whole B3 WAN. Just let the Fritz! box manage the LAN and attach the B3 LAN interface to it.

You'll need to change some settings first, but these are all in the web interface of the B3:

1) Log on as "admin" and browse to the network section
2) Since you'll not be using Wireless, disable the B3 access point
3) Change the Profile to "Server only"
4) Verify the LAN interface settings that DNS and DHCP services are not enabled.

That should be all. Switch the cables and it should register on the Fritz! box. You may want to configure that box to assign a "static" IP to the B3
