FTP transfer rate

Post by Zarei »

Hi,

Just got may Bubba yesterday and am now transferring my files over via ftp. I have connected it to a 100Mbit switch but can't seem to get transfer rates over 3Mbyte/s. I have had rates ~ 9Mbyte/s from my computer. I have no other transfers going to either computer.

Thanks

I think I've found the weak link. I tested the read speed of the HD and this is what I found:

/dev/hda:
Timing cached reads: 244 MB in 2.02 seconds = 120.83 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 24 MB in 3.14 seconds = 7.65 MB/sec

Can this be right? I get about 10 times the speed on my main computer. These are my hdparm settings for /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
multcount = 0 (off)
IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit)
unmaskirq = 0 (off)
using_dma = 0 (off)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 0 (off)
readahead = 256 (on)
geometry = 60801/255/63, sectors = 976773168, start = 0

Which of these would be safe to change?

So does it mean, there are some wrong settings in Bubba, which slows down everything unnecessary? Can it easy be fixed?

You can speed up hd access a bit by issuing the 'hdparm -m16 /dev/hda' command as user root

It seems this is the speed that the HD runs at normally. I tried -m16 and it doesn't change that much, maybe 1-2%.
