ports to forward for ftd?

Post by jamerson »

Hi!

Which ports should be forwarded to improve download speeds.
Usually one needs to do that for bittorrent at least.

Which ports does ftd use?

Hi jamersson,

The ports you should have open for "best" performance is 10000 up to and including port 14000.

I thought download speeds were ok before. Now I can't stop smiling. Thanks!

Is there some way of restricting the port range used by ftd, or is this not possible as long at ftd is closed source?

I'm not really that keen on forwarding the entire port range 10000-14000...

Best regards

Hi again,

First of all: I love my bubba and all the things it can do for me :)
And I think that this forum is superb for discovering new things you can do with it.

One thing though:

Am I really the only one who would like to be able to restrict/configure the ports used by the ftd application?

The problem is that I have other things on my LAN which needs ports in the range of 10000-14000, and I would love it if I could just put another port range, say 20000-20100, in a configuration file somewhere, and have the ftd read this file during startup.

What do think about this johannes or tor? Would it be possible?

Sincerely hope you can be helpful on this matter, since my download rates are ~25-30 kbps (for good torrents) and I have a 4Mbit line.

Best regards

Hi dengamle and others,

Regarding the ports used by the torrent downloader, nice of you to remind us of this :)

Since a few releases this is possible to do.

Make sure you run the latest version of the firmware, 0.31.4 as of this writing.

Make sure you dont have any downloads running.

Log into web-admin as the user admin

Select services and uncheck Up and downloads and press update. (This will shut down the ftd application)

ssh into Bubba and become root.

Start your favourite editor and edit the file /etc/ftd/ftdconfig.ini

Change the values for the entries listenportstart and listenportend to what ever you like. (The listenportend is the last port that ftd will use so make sure that it also gets opened in the firewall.)

Save the file and log out.

In the web-admin check the Up and downloads under services again and press update to start the ftd application.

Now the ftd app should use the ports altered in the config file.

Sorry for the way too long delay... :)

Great! I've just been trying it out and it seems to work fine.

Thank you very much!
