Release notes for Excito Bubba 2&3 software version 2.5.1.2

Post by carl »

This is a new micro upgrade. The upgrade is available only as a web update.

How to upgrade
To upgrade a running system, make sure you don't have any activities running such as uploads, downloads, print jobs etc. Then log in as admin in web-ui. Choose "Settings" menu entry. Choose "Software update" in the sub menu.

Fixed issues
* Fix a check for easyfind reading config file to detect correctly if easyfind is enabled or not.

I first thought this would stop the annoying "Easyfind is not enabled; aborting" that I get in my syslog, but it didn't. Was it supposed to?

Hi.

If you login via ssh to the root account and use the following command:-

service bubba-easyfind stop

the error messages will stop being entered into the log.

I know. But that's not what an "ordinary" user is supposed to do. I don't really understand why that service is started in the first place, I've never ever used easyfind.

But then I guess an "ordinary" user isn't sniffing syslog either :D

Same problem here, easyfind is spamming the logs. Even worse this results in HD not spinning down anymore.
As I don't need that service now and in future, my final solution:

Code: Select all

update-rc.d -f bubba-easyfind remove
and now all is quiet as before.

I think it's Excitos own service that talks to their servers. This has to do with the myownb3.com pointers for people who don't want their own domain. It's in settings->identity in the admin interface.

Since I've got easyfind turned off in the admin interface though I guess that should completely inactivate the service, so I guess someone at Excito missed one little piece somewhere.

This can only be achieved by removing the symlinks in the runlevel directories - that's exactly what my command does ;-)

I know. But I shouldn't have to do it manually, it should be done automatically when I untick the service in the gui, that's what I'm saying.

My guess is that this is a dirty hack as this service checks every minute whether "easyfind" is enabled. On finding it is disabled in the gui, it writes this into syslog - one line every minute!

The clean way would be to set the runlevel links when service is enabled in the gui and at the same time start the service. Disabling in the gui should stop the service and remove the symlionks.

When I try do an update from version 2.5.0.2 the update process hangs at:

Step 2: Update available sources: Reading state information

It stands on 100% but nothing more happen.

I'm running the update from web interface and I have wait on this to finish over a whole night.

Any suggestions on how to solve this?

Hi,

I just upgraded my B2 from 2.5.0.2 to 2.5.1.2. The upgrade seems to have worked without any issues. However, minidlna is still on version 1.0.22. Release notes from 2.5.1 states that minidlna is updated to latest release, (which should be 1.0.25).

What relese of minidlna should be included?

On my B2 with 2.5.0.2 i will upgade to 2.5.1.2. All services for torrent are stopped and nothing is running.
I go to settings, then software update and push the button.
Some checks are running and then i get:

Failures found in package (dpkg) database, unable to continue with upgrade

Jesus, what's that? I know that my installation is ok.
Something wrong with the server?
Has somebody any idea?

I reply on myself....

Update and/upgrade via webrowser will not working.
Ok then i had started now the ssh console and have done:

apt-get update - was running OK
apt-get upgrade - means have to download around 67MB and it is busy right now.

I hope that will do the job. I will report later on that.

That has not done the job...
mpd and subversion was still active and the system tells me that the packages was not purged.
Oops, these packages are in everyday use. Ok de-installed the packages and cleanup the whole
system, now the web-ui does the job so far.

Will report once at the end of update. Jesus what a work before Xmas.
