I have vista and I can not go into \\bubba\home\userx
When I double click on home in windows explorer, then I am getting user auth window, but when entering user name and password I am getting message about lacking permissions.

Eek:

Writing \\<bubba2 address> in windows explorer gives me error msg:
"Windows cannot find "192.168.1.0'. Check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item by clicking the Start button and then clicking Search."

It sounds for me that there is some network configuration problem.
It works for me without problems - just cannot go into home/user directories, but without problem into storage directories.

hi

are you sure about the 192.168.1.0 !?

the storage directories are open in the samba configuration (no authentication)
and the home/user are with authentication.
This sometimes gives problems in windows
but should be fixed by using
net use k: \\bubba\home\eek mypassword /USER:eek /PERSISTENT:YES
cheers

I tried in Vista:

Code: Select all

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Users\userx>net use k: \\bubba\home\janeks ****** /USER:janeks /PERSISTENT:
YES
System error 1219 has occurred.

Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more
than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the
server or shared resource and try again.
What does that mean?
What could be done?

Hi Janeks,
no I'm in Ubuntu 8.04 but I try also in Vista and Under Vista I don't see Bubba2 but only the odl one but I see both mediatomb services ;)
Very strange, i think is a Firewall problem, I will look in this direction .
Any way thanks.

Sorry for the typo, it should have been '192.168.1.100'...

For my understanding only eth0 is connected to a network cable, and in my bubba that is the one I use for WAN
But i'm not a big expert :)

This is the result from what you asked about:
# netstat -an|grep LISTEN|grep 445
tcp 0 0 192.168.1.100:445 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

# netstat -an|grep LISTEN|grep 139
tcp 0 0 192.168.1.100:139 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

Well Samba is configured correctly

now first delete all mapped network drives

Code: Select all

net use * /d
then try to map the samba share

Code: Select all

net use k: \\bubba\home\eek mypassword /USER:eek /PERSISTENT:YES
net use k: \\bubba\home\janeks ***** /USER:janeks /PERSISTENT:YES
net use k: \\192.168.1.100\home\trencarbe ***** /USER:trencarbe /PERSISTENT:YES
also i would try the new bubba packages, as this may also have some relation with the silicon bug.
cheers

have succeeded late yesterday evening, but I'm not sure which of the tricks that made it work.

I've made changes in iptables on BubbaTwo, and added ports on my firewall.

So I have to roll back the iptables to check if that was the solution. I've made a thread with plead for untouched iptable setting...

Looking at the ifconfig output you have connected bubba2 in the WAN port and samba is not allowed access from WAN, only LAN.

any news on this?
tried all the above, but nothing is working.

I am using windows 7 or/and Vista.
both the same result: will connect, but somehow doesn't accept my user credentials.
i've tried to log on as a admin and as a user to several folders. nothing worked.
