New software update for BUBBA|TWO

Post by tor »

Release notes for BUBBA|TWO 1.1
========================

This is a new major upgrade. The upgrade is available both as a firmware upgrade and a new install image.

To upgrade a running system, make sure you don't have any activities running such as uploads, downloads, print jobs etc. Then log in as admin in web-ui. Choose "settings" menu entry. Choose "Update" in the sub menu. Press the "Update" button.

To (re)install a system please read the manual, section "INSTALLING & REINSTALLING SOFTWARE".

New features
-----------------
* Autodetect of network settings and "Network profiles". Functionality to make installation of a new system as easy as possible.
* Setup wizard. Minimal wizard to set up basic configuration of BUBBA|TWO
* Squeeze-center officially bundled with BUBBA|TWO installer
* Timezone support and NTP to automatically adjust time.

Major bugfixes
------------------
* Easyfind disable/enable, when disable and then enabling easyfind again it sometimes did not update the server rendering the function non operational.
* Firewall: Portforward blocking all outbound traffic on that port.

Known issues when upgrading
--------------------------------------
* IMAP server, Dovecot, might shutdown due to time changes when NTP starts. Symptoms is that login to horde wont work and reading email is impossible. Either restart dovecot by unchecking and checking (pressing update in between) Imap in the "Services" tab, or reboot BUBBA|TWO
* Upgrade can hang in some rare occasions. It will then halt on ~95% complete. Upgrade is however successful. Its safe to terminate it after a minute or two.

To get access to the internet I spoofed the mac-address on the wan port of my bubba2. Does this stand in the way of a successfull update?

If you have problem updating, following procedures might help.

First we can check that the policy is correct, this by issuing following command:

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy
This should end up with following output:

Code: Select all

[0:0][root@bubba azatoth]# apt-cache policy
Package files:
 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     release a=now
 500 http://ftp.se.debian.org etch/main Packages
     release v=4.0r6,o=Debian,a=stable,l=Debian,c=main
     origin ftp.se.debian.org
 600 http://update.excito.org upstream_etch/main Packages
     release v=1.0,o=Debian Etch,a=upstream_stable,l=Debian Etch subset,c=main
     origin update.excito.org
 999 http://update.excito.org marielle/main Packages
     release v=1.0,o=Excito,a=stable,l=BubbaTwo stable,c=main
     origin update.excito.org
Pinned packages:
If not, issue following:

Code: Select all

cp /usr/share/bubba-configs/apt/* /etc/apt/
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -c /etc/apt/bubba-apt.conf update
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -c /etc/apt/bubba-apt.conf dist-upgrade
If above was correct, but you are still not able to update, first we can force to re-read all sources, this by issuing following:

Code: Select all

rm -f /var/lib/apt/lists/update.excito.org_dists_*
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -c /etc/apt/bubba-apt.conf update
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -c /etc/apt/bubba-apt.conf dist-upgrade
If above neither didn't work, then please issue following command and post it here:

Code: Select all

 dpkg -l | grep -v ^ii
/Carl

edit: sorry, got wrong name of the config file, should be bubba-apt.conf

hello,

I started the update and got this as result:

Updating available sources... done
Checking for updates... done
4 package(s) to update.Upgrading...
OK

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Apache/2.2.3 (Debian) mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 PHP/5.2.0-8+etch11 mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8c Server at zefod Port 80

What do I make of this??

The version has changed from 1.0.8-1 to 1.1.2 so I think the update was performed.

Leo

edit:

when I try to open Horde I get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function xcache_get() in /usr/share/horde3/lib/Horde/Cache/xcache.php on line 114

I did restart dovecot (unchecking update checking update Imap in the services tab).

I can read my email via kmail alright ( after restarting dovecot).

I did not restart the server (zefod) yet

It seems as apache for some reason failed to start some parts of the system.

Either try to log in and restart the webserver:

As root
/etc/init.d/apache2 restart

or just reboot your unit.

Hi Pa,

I restarted apache. The error remained the same

Then at 15:42 I rebooted the bubba2:

- I don't have access to the internet anymore (firefox)
- Strange: fetchmail fetches new mails and I can read them via kmail/imap
- I can mount the home and storage directoties on my laptop and access the files
- When I go to the login screen (admin admin) and try to login I get:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Apache/2.2.3 (Debian) mod_fastcgi/2.4.2 PHP/5.2.6-5ex1 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8c Server at zefod Port 80

- I can ssh into zefod and become root

I will shutdown the bubba now and will make access to the internet via my router so I can
reach the forum again.

Leo

Ps. As root I gave: shutdown -h now

It reported: shutting down but the blue light kept flashing until after 20 minutes I pulled the power cord.

Later I booted the bubba again. It booted alright but with the same results.

There seems to have been a problem in the init script for mt-daapd, which might have resulted in that an upgrade to be failed. I have now uploaded an fix for that problem, which I hope will resolve any issues at upgrades where mt-daapd has been a problem.

Hi,

Log in on bubba again usgin ssh then as root run:

Code: Select all

DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -c /etc/apt/bubba-apt.conf update
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -c /etc/apt/bubba-apt.conf dist-upgrade
This will upgrade your system.

Hi,
I have attempted to upgrade through the web interface as instructed and I received the following error:
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error
As I now had no access via the web interface I restarted apache which had no effect

I checked the apt-cache policy this appears to be correct, I then forced it to re read the sources as per the above instructions

The following is the output from the command :

Code: Select all

 dpkg -l | grep -v ^ii
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name Version Description
+++-============================-====================================-============================================
rc horde3 3.2.1+debian0-1ex6 horde web application framework
Apologise in advance I am still new to this

It seems that you might have an broken installation (notice the presence of .dpkg-new files, whick is only present during the half-installed phase), try instead following:

Code: Select all

DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -y update
DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get -y dist-upgrade
