Bubba 2 Crashes transfering large data over network

Post by steelmm »

Hello Guys

I have a slight problem with the bubba 2 after the latest firmware software update. When i transfers of copy files to the bubba using a Apple mac or pc networked pcs to bubba looses connection to my network. I am using Apple OS 10.5 and Vista, Windows 7 to copy data to the bubba 2.
This is very upsetting as i have lost my itunes data in the process.I have assigned a static ip address to all my pc under my network Workgroup. I can access the bubba console after unplugging it and powering on again.
I am using a Hitachi 250 deskstar harddrive installed into the bubba. I have turned of dhcp assignment as my router does with to my network.
The Folder I am copying to is over 5gb maybe i cannot transfer large files over i dont know.

I have turned on and off the jumbo settings with no difference as it still crashes.

Please can someboby mention a solution :(

Many Thanks

Hello,

We do had this problem before in relation to a bug in the bootloader; So if you have an older BubbaTwo, could you issue following command as root to verify you having latest bootloader:

Code: Select all

wget -O - -q http://update.excito.org/util/findver.pl | perl
You should have an output as following:

Code: Select all

Version: 1.3.4-00056-gf6f51b1-dirty
Date : Nov 4 2008 - 18:48:46
If you have an older bootloader, please try following the instructions laid out at http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?t=1364

Thanks carl, that would explain it.

2.6.30.1 seems rock solid to me. Been using it for a good couple of months with no issues.

Hi,

ok I'll use that thread because I've the same (similar?) problem now. Sometimes, if I copy a large amount of data (~10GB) over the network on to my bubba, it crashes. Happened to me now for the third time. The internet connection (bubba works as a router too) is still running but I can't access bubba (not at all, even ssh) and I've to "restart" it by pulling the plug. Even the power switch isn't reacting any longer.

So, if that happens the next time (I really hope not, it starts to really annoy me), can you please give me some information which logs I should post and so on?

The bootloader problem mentioned in that thread can't be the problem and bubba wasn't modified, so original Kernel … is running.

[EDIT]
Forgot to mention that I'm using AFP
[/EDIT]
[EDIT]
Ok, happend now a fifth time, again having traffic over AFP - really annoying. :?
[/EDIT]
Thanks for help!

So, Bubba crashed again after copying 500MB over AFP, that's becoming ridiculous.
I saved /var/log/syslog I don't know what log is more useful? At least I found some DMA errors before crashing the whole thing:

Code: Select all

Plz help, can't use my Bubba in the meanwhile. As I posted yesterday: pulling the plug is necessary to restart the whole thingy.

Ok, I was searching for the DMA problem on that board, could have done that before, my fault I know.
Found that thread, but my Bubba is up to date, as mentioned it on that thread:
http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?f ... 5&start=30

I'm copying data right now over AFP, no hang so far, 1,7GB copied, syslog tells me:

I think that's the AFP data copy problem?

The versions of my kernel:

Code: Select all

moose@bubba:~$ dpkg -s bubba-kernel bubba-modules
Package: bubba-kernel
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: admin

Architecture: powerpc
Version: 1:2.6.26.5-9
Description: This is the Linux kernel for bubba

Package: bubba-modules
Status: install ok installed
Priority: optional
Section: admin
Installed-Size: 8776
Maintainer: Tor Krill <tor@excito.com>
Architecture: powerpc
Version: 1:2.6.26.5-9
Description: This is the modules used by the Linux kernel on bubba
Ok, and there we are: Bubba crashed completely right now, last syslog message:

Code: Select all

Jan 17 17:14:32 bubba last message repeated 27 times
Jan 17 17:15:00 bubba last message repeated 5 times
Jan 17 17:15:01 bubba /USR/SBIN/CRON[3144]: (root) CMD (test -x /usr/bin/php && /usr/bin/php /usr/share/horde3/scripts/alarms.php)
Jan 17 17:15:04 bubba kernel: of-fsl-dma-channel e0008100.dma-channe: DMA halt timeout!
Things getting worse, fourth crash today.

Internet connection still works, but can't connect to Bubba, not via web interface, nor via SSH.

[EDIT]
Ok, looked for the HDD temperature with hddtemp:

Code: Select all

/dev/sda: DW CDW01AESD0-L0B5 1: 46 C
that can't be the problem.
[/EDIT]

[EDIT2]
Okay, new variable of the problem:
UPNP (over Bubba of course) was in use by my flate mate all the time, so UPNP is running flawless.
[/EDIT2]

Hi all,

Yes, this is a known issue with the current kernel. This bug is fixed in a newer version, that will be released soon.
