This could be a problem resulted in a wrong preference file for apt in the earliest software release, and in combination of an recent update of php upstream debian, which in combination could have interfered the update.

Could you first check if you have the directory

Code: Select all

/usr/share/bubba-configs/apt
and if so, copy the two files in there to /etc/apt

run thereafter

Code: Select all

apt-get update
now comes the tricky part, try first:

Code: Select all

apt-get install php5-cgi=5.2.0-8+etch11
if that didn't work, try

Code: Select all

apt-get -f install
if that didn't work, a solution can be to try removing the bubba-backend package and remove the php5-cgi package, and after that have suceeded, reinstall the bubba-backend package.

Thanks Carl for giving some information much appreciated. But no go for me i get:

during proces:
Setting up apache2-mpm-prefork (2.2.3-4+etch6) ...
Starting web server (apache2)...apache2: Syntax error on line 668 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/bubba: No such file or directory
failed!

And when it stops it says:

Setting up php5-mysql (5.2.0-8+etch13) ...

Setting up php5-mcrypt (5.2.0-8+etch13) ...

Setting up php5-imap (5.2.0-8+etch13) ...

Setting up php5-gd (5.2.0-8+etch13) ...

Setting up php-pear (5.2.0-8+etch13) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/pear/pear.conf ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
libapache2-mod-php5
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
bubba:/etc/apt#

Is this whole updating now fine or do i have to do more?

That was strange, try reinstall the bubba-frontend package. (apt-get install --reinstall bubba-backend)

I decided to use a complete fresh install since other options didn't work also (like mt-daap applet) so then i hope my mt-daap problem is gone too (it crashed everytime).

You must issue that command as root, i.e. first issue the command "su", and after that, issue the password "excito".

Sadly I can't test an upgrade from rc7 until monday, but if you want to test further during the weekend, you can try differenct combination of following:

Code: Select all

apt-get remove bubba-backend
dpkg --remove bubba-backend
apt-get upgrade
apt-get -f install
apt-get install bubba-backend
The context is that we need to remove bubba-backend from the system so the breakage is resolved, after the backend has been fully removed, and we are sure that correct source.list and apt-preferences is installed, then you should be able to install it again.

Ok, here is a procedure, which in my test environment, does work; I'm sorry for all inconvinience.

This procedure assumes that you have tried an update and dist-upgrade first.
  • First log in to the bubba via SSH and change to root (su: excito).
  • issue following:

    Code: Select all

     cp /usr/share/bubba-configs/apt/* /etc/apt/
  • Here I do an intentional semi-failed distupgrade, might not be needed, but anyway. as I force it, you will get the option to remove two packages, answer yes there.

    Code: Select all

    apt-get dist-upgrade -f
  • Now we remove everything that depends on bad packages (except tzdata which is essential), on the removal of horde, answer no here on the removal of database (is an bug in the bubba-horde package I just noticed, that dialog should be there unless purge is in effect).

    Code: Select all

    apt-get remove php5-common libxml2 apache2.2-common libpq4
  • To be sure we don't have any old packages left, issue

    Code: Select all

    apt-get clean
  • To prevent any old php4 to get installed, we install php5 libs first

    Code: Select all

     apt-get install php-date php-db php-file php-http-request php-log php-mail php-mail-mime php-mdb2 php-mdb2-driver-mysql php-net-imap php-net-socket php-net-url php-pear php5-cli php5-common php5-gd php5-imap php5-mcrypt php5-mysql php5-xcache
  • Now we are able to install the frontend again

    Code: Select all

    apt-get install bubba-frontend
you should notice that it only downloads from update.excito.org now, but if you still get stuff from upstream, please tell me, and I look into the issue.

Edit: should be NO on the bubba horde question

No, that's fine, what I meant by upstream is that it would start downloading from ftp.se.debian.org or similar.

After the downoad and installation, This is the only error I got

Setting up apache2-mpm-prefork (2.2.3-4+etch5) ...
Starting web server (apache2)...Syntax error on line 14 of /etc/apache2/conf.d/admin:
Invalid command 'FastCgiExternalServer', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration

invoke-rc.d: initscript apache2, action "start" failed.

Now, I don't have web access. I guess it has something to do with the above error.

What I mean web access is that, I can't access the bubba admin webpage

If I restart my apache, here is the output

bubba2:/var/log# /etc/init.d/apache2 start
Starting web server (apache2)...(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
(98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
Unable to open logs
failed!

For an unknown reason, lighttpd got installed. I disable lighttpd and start apache2, I can now use the web interface again.

Can you tell me why lightttpd got installed when I followed your latest procedure?

How many times did you get that error? It is fine the first two times, as long at the last time, it goes through, it's due to that php5 cgi isn't fully configured during the forceful reinstallation. you can try following, one or two times:

Code: Select all

apt-get remove --purge bubba-backend
apt-get -f install
apt-get install bubba-frontend
If apt-get cant resolve the issue, one way then is to use dpkg directly to forcefully remove some packages.
First then, could you give me the output of following command:

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep -v ^ii
