How many users can a normal Debian or Ubuntu distribution hold?

If I'm correctly informed there can be maximum 4294967295 users in any Linux system since that's the roof for the user id. What I hear though is that it's not recommended with more than 65535 users (don't really know why).

But that's all theory. I'd say for the Bubba the important thing is how many of the users are logged on simultaneously (if you'd log on 1000 users at the same time it'd probobly not be fun for any of them) and of course how much data the users save.
