Bubbagen Live-USB for B3 version 1.17 (Gentoo Linux 6.6.13)

Hi, I've just released version 1.17 of the Bubbagen live-USB image for B3 on GitHub. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gordonb3/cache/master/Bubba/bubbagen-screenshots.jpg What is new? The big news from last month was that Logitech has decided to take down the MySqueezebox and UEradio sites, informi...

Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 version 1.16 revision 1 (Gentoo Linux 6.1.41)

I ran some tests and it turns out the the fallback address method doesn't really work as expected (any more) One of the things I noted is that the DHCP client does not execute the exit hooks when it issues the fallback address. It also turns out that the DHCP server is in fact not started when the f...

Re: Bubba Server Install images

My suggestion is that you simply clone your current disk rather than start from scratch. Since the Bubba series has always used 'green' disks there should not be a real issue finding a disk with the same size as these are still pretty standard in USB enclosures. You could in fact buy one of those an...

Bubbagen live-USB for B3 version 1.16 revision 1 (Gentoo Linux 6.1.41)

Hi, I've just released an update to version 1.16 of the Bubbagen live-USB image for B3 on GitHub. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gordonb3/cache/master/Bubba/bubbagen-screenshots.jpg This is purely a maintenance update bringing all packages up to date as of August 20, 2023. As before, two versions...

Re: B3 - HDD died, switch to SSD

Obvious I run Gentoo  I actually initially started making the Bubba packages compliant with newer Debian but I found creating and maintaining Debian packages way too complicated to my taste. The original leg work for the Gentoo image was done by a girl who identified as Sakaki, who also create...

Re: B3 - HDD died, switch to SSD

The comment about SSD is not completely accurate. Hardware wise there is no limitation, however U-Boot must recognize the drive's firmware in order to be able to boot from it. This is usually not the case with modern price friendly SSDs. The community U-Boot should be able to recognize a lot more dr...

Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 version 1.16 (Gentoo Linux 6.1.12 Stable)

So what's the correct procedure to update the system? The recommended way is to use Sakaki's `genup`. The manual alternative is to use: eix-sync emerge -1avuND --with-bdeps=y @world You may be prompted that some packages reference libraries for which newer versions have been installed. This notably...

Re: Problem with shutting down the system

Hello Gordon, After (changing destination drive and) installation I tried to reboot the system with several commands, which failed always with the same errors: b3c ~ # reboot WARNING: could not determine runlevel - doing soft reboot (it's better to use shutdown instead of reboot from the command li...

Re: Bubbagen live-USB for B3 version 1.16 (Gentoo Linux 6.1.12 Stable)

Hello Gordon, As I own more than one b3, I tried to use your Gentoo Linux on my second one. Since I want to install the system I looked at the script install_on_sda.sh. I installed a fresh/new SSD into the b3! So there no previous installation on that disk, and booted from USB A lsblk; df -h result...

Re: Debian bookworm (12) image 1.0 released for B3

Violet/purple LED means that as far as u-boot is concerned everything is okay. If it doesn't recognize the disk the LED will turn red, i.e. with the original u-boot it will, but I would seriously doubt that this could recognize a 4TB SSD. So I'm guessing that you already have the community u-boot an...

Re: Debian bookworm (12) image 1.0 released for B3

Although there is a power symbol next to it, it's actually not a power button. It requires an app to detect its state and do something in response Technically you're right ; From an hardware perspective, the rear button is a GPIO-wired generic key. However in the B3 DTS it is marked as a power butt...

Re: Debian bookworm (12) image 1.0 released for B3

Although there is a power symbol next to it, it's actually not a power button. It requires an app to detect its state and do something in response ¹. Thus, once the LED turns green you can hold it for as long as you want but it won't do anything until the system is fully booted and bubba-buttond dae...

Re: Easyfind end of service

Ah. I see that my work email is registered here. Found it in the spam folder

Much obliged. Currently reviewing the last packages that were still accessing the update site. FTD still causing some headaches as I need to combine multiple packages into one (ftd, libeutils and a really old sigc++).

Re: Easyfind end of service

The tar,xz files, yes

I have builds for version 2.0.0.1 (for B2 installations) and version 2.3~rc3

Forget about libeutils. I actually have a source for that as part of the bubba-admin collection on my own GitHub space.

Re: Easyfind end of service

I believe I can get everything from GitHub - except so it seems the B2 manual (version 2.0.0.1 - oldest commit on GitHub is 2.1.0)

Oh and I'm missing a dependency package: libeutils is also not on GitHub
