Have you been editing the config files with a Windows editor? ERROR: Badly formed boolean in configuration file: "yes # new line". Indicates an (typo?) error in the config file. Look in /etc/samba/smb.conf and re-check, also the end-of-lines (!) BTW: Google gives about 9000 hits on exactly this mess...

Certificate would IMHO hinder you only in SSH and HTTPS, only 'complaining' that cert is not valid ("..do you want to continue?..") You mentioned "from the outside".
