[gentoo|bubbagen] week 43 upgrades advisory
Last week's updates proved to contain a not so welcome surprise that you may or may not already have suffered from. Somewhere midway portage loses its ability to download packages and there is no automated method to recover from that. To verify if you are affected check the contents of /usr/portage/...

Re: Keeping B3 up to date
I don't think Excito was actively maintaining the software even when they were still in good financial shape. ;) Key thing here is that most Linux distributions like Windows will at some point require you to install a new version, at which time you are likely to loose many of your settings, if not a...

Good point. Sharing my script for those interested: #!/bin/sh if [ -z "$1" ]; then myname=$(echo $0 | sed "s/^.*\/\([^\/][^\/]*\)$/\1/") echo "Usage: $myname <identity>" exit fi newip=$(dig @ns1.excito.org $1.myownb3.com | grep -v "^[;]" | grep -v "^$&quo...

Sep 24 14:23:52 CRM sudo: root : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/root ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/bin/chown www-data -R / ???? Okay, that looks like someone was able to inject arbitrary code through some web based (CRM?) application and as you allowed the www user to sudo the chown command they now own your system. ...

Re: myownb3.com problems
I have the same problem. The domain is for sale? Not exactly. I did some querying in historical domain data and it looks like the domain was never owned by Rodeus. When the domain registration expired on September 16, 2019, it was instantly purchased by an online service provider that has no intent...

Re: myownb3.com problems
I was afraid that might have happened. Still unsure whether this domain was still registered to Johannes like the mybubba.org domain and dropped alongside it or if this was an oversight from Rodeus. Hopefully Charles will be able to tell us more in a short while.

Re: myownb3.com problems
Was still working earlier this morning. I ran some updates on my parents' B3. Random pings now give me three (so far) out of the pool posted by Puma. As far as I can tell the easyfind service itself does not appear to be compromised, they just seem to have taken control of the myownb3.com domain whi...

[Gentoo|Bubbagen] experimental nftables support added to bubba-overlay
As xtables support appears to be degrading for newer kernels (xtables-addons can already no longer be compiled on kernel versions higher than 4.14.nnn) the next release of Bubbagen will be exclusively using nftables backend for firewalling. As part of the preparation I have added a prerelease of the...

That doesn't sound good. You could check out the following external link for hints how to proceed:

Re: Bubba 2 crashed - how to recover files?
Unsure if the same partitioning method was used on the B2, but on the B3 the data partition is set up as an LVM to allow it to be configured with a mirror disk (RAID-1). If Qnap supports this method of soft-raid you could try `vgscan` if it can find the LVM and the volumes inside it.

Re: Excito Bubba 3 - compatible SSDs ?
I get that. I like to have the cable detachable as well, particularly because I have multiple units. The points indicated in the wiki are not suited for positioning headers though. There are however in fact three different places on the board where you can create a serial connection, apparently depe...

Re: Excito Bubba 3 - compatible SSDs ?
Hi Chris, What I found was that changing u-boot environment variables from userspace doesn't actually work. That is, at some point I did manage to get it to to do what I wanted but it looked ugly and I kind of expected the hack to start failing at some point. So I ended up doing what I didn't want t...

Re: Excito Bubba 3 - compatible SSDs ?
What you need to realize is that the u-boot used in the B3 is from 2010 (June 29). This means that any hardware requiring newer drivers will not be supported. According to Johannes the EVO 840 series was supported, but Sakaki- mentioned some four years back that she owned a Samsung SSD that was not ...

Re: Serial console access
Just verified and the board on the spare unit is in fact an RF1 2011. Did not re-run the beep test. I guess I may have suffered from an occupational hazard, starting the count from 0 instead of 1.
