Hi!

I have some pre-buying questions for you guys!

1- On Bubba SERVER, there's apache installed. But it is running debian, so I can install mysql and php right?

2- Is there any way to install Xorg and run some interface via VNC or something ?

3- Is there any place where I could try the web interface?

4- What's the major restrictions? (Ressources, etc.)

5- Could you give me some comments/opinions about bubba? (tips are welcomed)

6- And finally, I'm from Canada. Where could I buy one?

Thanks a lot!!!!!!

Mysql is pre-installed on bubba. I was running Gallery2 on a bubba2, which needs apache2 + mysql and php, so it's fine. That said, bubba doesn't have a high power CPU. In my experience with Gallery2 (a photo album website) it was fine serving up pages from the album but was rather slow at uploading photos. This is when it generates resized images and thumbnails which is cpu intensive for bubba.

Similarly, I installed windowmaker (wmaker) and vncserver to run gui apps and have a persistent terminal

On the plus side it has huge storage capacity and has all the features of a linux box. It stays cool (temperature wise) and uses hardly any power. A limitation is the data transfer rate. Samba serving is cpu limited to ~7MB per second while encrypted file transfer using ssh is slower. This is more than enough for serving videos / music but it can take a while to transfer really large files.

Tips? if sharing videos over a wireless network, increase your player's cache time. Playback can be interrupted, but that's not bubba's fault.
