HPLJ 4050 not recognized

I own a Bubba Server for several years now and it works great with my Brother printer. Recently I got hold of an HP LaserJet 4050 (not the ethernet version) that I would like to connect to the Bubba, using a Centronics-to-USB cable. So I replaced the Brother with the HP, but the Bubba did not recognize it ("Unknown"). The cable is OK as it worked fine when the HP was connected to my PC. From what I found on the web it is unlikely that this printer is not supported. Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, and more importantly, put me on the right track to get this baby flying? Any comments are much appreciated.
