Bubba does not recover from network loss

Post by PannkakaShow »

Hi all,

there is some problem in my router, it drops network every few days. This is a separate problem which I need to investigate why it happens.

However, when this happens, Bubba continues as usual the attempts to acquire an IP address via DHCP. After many unsuccessful attempts, it seems to give up for good.

Even after I reboot my router, Bubba stays silent and I have to eventually reboot Bubba so that it will appear in the network.

Logs show the following, although I'm not sure how to interpret it:

Code: Select all

Mar 29 07:37:13 bubba dnsmasq[2012]: no address range available for DHCP request via eth1
Mar 29 07:37:14 bubba dhclient: DHCPREQUEST on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67
Mar 29 07:37:28 bubba avahi-daemon[2051]: Withdrawing address record for 192.168.11.101 on eth
Mar 29 07:37:28 bubba avahi-daemon[2051]: Leaving mDNS multicast group on interface eth1.IPv4
Mar 29 07:37:28 bubba avahi-daemon[2051]: iface.c: interface_mdns_mcast_join() called but no l
Mar 29 07:37:28 bubba avahi-daemon[2051]: Interface eth1.IPv4 no longer relevant for mDNS.
Mar 29 07:37:29 bubba dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 6
Mar 29 07:37:35 bubba dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 5
Mar 29 07:37:40 bubba dhclient: No DHCPOFFERS received.
Mar 29 07:37:40 bubba dhclient: Trying recorded lease <null address>
Mar 29 07:37:40 bubba dhclient: subnet_number():inet.c:56: Addr/mask length mismatch.
Mar 29 07:37:49 bubba dnsmasq[2012]: no address range available for DHCP request via eth1
Mar 29 07:38:18 bubba last message repeated 4 times
Then, after this has happened, the dnsmasq printout is always the same, and no IP address is fetched:

Code: Select all

Mar 29 07:42:25 bubba dnsmasq[2012]: no address range available for DHCP request via eth1
Mar 29 07:42:55 bubba last message repeated 3 times
There is some problem with Bubba, as my laptop is able to recover after rebooting the router.

To me it the logs look something like this: after too many failed attempts, the IP address is marked as removed by avahi-daemon, and it is never brought back, and as a result Bubba cannot get a new IP address even if the router comes back online.

Has anyone else seen this - is it a problem in Avahi? And how do I fix it :P

Ah, I noticed 1.1.4 is out, with some networking fixes.

I'll do dist-upgrade and try that!

Nope, still happens with the new firmware :(

Once the router goes nuts, it has to be rebooted manually. Even after router reboot, Bubba still cannot fetch the IP. So Bubba has to be rebooted as well.

It happens to me to.

If my router is restarted for some reason, then I also have to restart my Bubba.
Although I haven't done the upgrade to 1.1.4 yet.
