Fresh install

Fresh install

Since my last two upgrades did'nt go well(see links below), I would like to do a fresh install to start over from scratch.
http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?f ... 8&start=79
http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?f ... 1&start=21

Before doing so I of course want to empty the disc, or at least copy all of my user data.

Windows reports 58,5GB used disc space, 848GB free disc space and 906GB total disc space.
Bubba2's file manager reports 928 388 MB Total disk size and 868 470 MB Free disk space.
I got 12,4GB user data that I know of.

What would be a reasonable size of a 1TB Bubba2 installation, not tampered with to much(Bubbamon installed), only set up as server, running squeezecenter with a small collection of music?
Does Windows/Bubba2 file manager report disc size including Bubba2 installation and swap file?
Should I be keep my eyes open for approx. 46GB data lost somewhere before reinstalling the system?
I'm pretty sure this is basic knowledge to someone with a bit more Linux experience than i got.

Any suggestions to this would be most appreciated.

Cheers

This was obviously a hard nut to crack.
Here is some more info that I hope will help to solve my problem:

bubba:/home/test# df -h

/dev/sda1 9.2G 1.3G 7.6G 14% /
tmpfs 125M 0 125M 0% /lib/init/rw
udev 10M 24K 10M 1% /dev
tmpfs 125M 4.0K 125M 1% /dev/shm
/dev/mapper/bubba-storage
907G 13G 849G 2% /home

bubba:/home/test# df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 9621848 1261720 7871352 14% /
tmpfs 127904 0 127904 0% /lib/init/rw
udev 10240 24 10216 1% /dev
tmpfs 127904 4 127900 1% /dev/shm
/dev/mapper/bubba-storage

No one knows?

I guess I should see it from the bright side, I think My Bubba2 is heavy enough to use as a bookend in My book shelf. :(

Try to ask the Excito crew directly by mailing to support@excito.net
They're very busy now troubleshooting the latest update, but the usually check these pages and will try to help or replace your bubba with a new one if neccesary.

A normal install uses 11GB for the system, 10GB for the root partition, and 1GB for reserve swap space; The default used space on the storage partition is now only a few KB as the default web has been dropped, before that around 1MB was used. other than that the partition and filesystem uses some space (around 5% of total).
Also recall that disk manufacturer shows disk sizes in base 10 while the file system is shown in base 2, so you will see apparently less size in your computer, as they are counted in different bases.

In other words: what would windows/Bubba2 file manager report when a brand new 1TB Bubba2 with no user data on it is connected?

Removed all my user data and Windows reports 46,2GB used space 860GB available space and 906GB total capacity.

bubba:/home/test# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 9.2G 1.3G 7.6G 14% /
tmpfs 125M 0 125M 0% /lib/init/rw
udev 10M 24K 10M 1% /dev
tmpfs 125M 4.0K 125M 1% /dev/shm
/dev/mapper/bubba-storage
907G 205M 861G 1% /home

Can I reinstall the system without loosing any data "lost" somewhere?

Does Windows report the "partition and filesystem uses some space (around 5% of total)" as used space?
