Old disk is dying, can I get just new disk?

Post by Valdis »

Disk of my bubba B3 is dying.
Can I get somewhere only new disk? I couldn't find such option in https://excitostore.com/ and also couldn't find any contact for
sales representative.

More info about failing disk.
First it got latencies up to 1 second, and now it won't transmit data using NFS.
Diagnostics shows following:

Code: Select all

root@bubba:/home/bin# smartctl -d ata -H /dev/sda
smartctl 5.40 2010-07-12 r3124 [armv5tel-unknown-linux-gnueabi] (local build)

Hi Valdis

You should be able to replace the hdd with any standard 3.5 inch hdd with sata connector.

Following is citet from:
http://wiki.excito.com/w/index.php?title=About_Bubba
Section Hardware and Expandability
"Of course, B3's hard disk can fail, too. But you can easily swap the dead hard disk with a new one, and thanks to a clever design, the operation takes only a few minutes. "

Please note that because the B3 is both passively cooled and fully enclosed, any fast spinning disk will self-destruct on account of its own generated heat. The safe choice is either a WD Green or WD Red drive, with the first one requiring to be flashed. Another option is to use an SSD drive but this is somewhat tricky as not all SSDs are recognized by the internal ROM and not all mainboards have the required hole for mounting an SSD.
