Bubbagen and logitechmediaserver-bin (Solved)

Post by jallee »

Hey all!
Did a hard disk change and also made the change from Debian to Bubbagen 1.11.0 on my B3.
Now I'm trying to get logitechmediaserver-bin started, but it does not want to start. :(
Also tried to reinstall logitechmediaserver-bin, but no luck there either.
Suggestions someone? :D

Code: Select all

Looks like the owner is set incorrectly on that folder. Unsure why these files are even stored there - it must have made sense at some point but for this type of use they should not be in /etc but in /var/lib.

To fix your issue now ssh into the box (as root) and type the following on the command line:

Code: Select all

chown -R logitechmediaserver:logitechmediaserver /etc/logitechmediaserver

Hmmm... Looks like I made a mistake in the Readme's links

The OpenRC version is here: https://github.com/gordonb3/bubbagen/re ... 1.0.img.xz

And the Systemd version here: https://github.com/gordonb3/bubbagen/re ... 1.5.img.xz

Thanks :)
What's the difference in the two versions? Downloaded the OpenRC version and the install script is missing in the root dir?
Will it work on my old B2 if i decide to bring it back from the dead?

That is strange :?

The installer in /root is actually a shortcut to /usr/local/sbin/install_on_sda.sh. The installer is there, yet the shortcut is missing like you say.

The difference between the two versions is the init system, or service manager if you like. `systemd` is the modern way to manage applications that should be run when the system enters a specific state, which is normally restricted to `start-up` and `shutdown`. I don't think it really adds something to the B3, but some people like it and it doesn't have as many variants as OpenRC (aka system-V). The systemd version comes at a caveat of a different network manager that in my opinion is rather limited in comparison to the one used in OpenRC.

No, you cannot use this on a B2. The B2 has a different CPU that will not allow running any of the binaries (or kernel for that matter) in this image. You should have a look at Sakaki's Gentoo-on-b2. This is a more or less `vanilla` installation but you can add the Bubba frontend fairly easily.

And getting stranger.
Nothing happens when I try to run the installer - any clues?
I've tried both versions with the same result :)

Still no luck. Had a look at the script and it should prompt me to type INSTALL.
Haven't done shellscripts for a while and closed it again... Too HC for me :)

johanheinesen,

could you please post the install_on_sda.sh script on your system (and what you get if you run
"ls -l /usr/local/sbin/install_on_sda.sh")?

If it is still anything like the version on the gentoo-on-b3 image (here), there shouldn't be much that could cause it to fail before printing something...

Best, sakaki

Hi Sakaki,

It's a bit different from the original: install_on_sda.sh (sources /root/install.ini if it exists)

But yes, it should always return something and not die silently
