My Bubba Fell. Harddrive broken :(

Post by yodanski »

Hey guys,

Yesterday night I accidentally dropped my Bubba Server.

It made a two meter drop.

Immediately after the harddrive was making funny noises : not a good sign.

So I consider it dead, for now. Since the waiting line for Bubba2 is pretty
long if I understand correctly, I am going to put in a new drive.

Which one is best, and what is the max size?
What screwdriver do I need to open up Bubba?
Can I just replace it and use an USB stick to get going again?
(I don't care about warranty loss)

Any tips are welcome. Thanks in advance!
I'm very much looking forward to Bubba serving my .iso's
to my hacked Apple Tv again!

Sorry to hear that. But yes, provided that the electronics didn't damage (which they shouldn't) it's just to open the box with a size 2 hex driver, pull out the board + disk package and exchange the disk. Just use the USB install procedure covered in the manual to get it going again.

Make sure to handle the electronics on a grounded ESD safe surface, like a metal kitchen sink. Just in case.
